At first, I was on the resign Letang bandwagon at all costs. As time goes on, I am starting to turn towards the trade Letang one. If he wants the reported 7 mil and NMC, then you need to trade him at the draft. I think a team will overpay at the draft, compared to the middle of summer. I would love to see a first, a young nhl ready player and a prospect. I don't think that is asking for too much. Letang has high value, is young and will have a bidding war I hope.

I think you take whatever you can get Nisk. I just don't believe in him anymore, if you can get a 4th...take it and put it towards keeping Duper or Douglas. I am not against trading Neal at all either. I think he has good value too, and would have plenty of suitors for him. I know him and Malkin mesh really well, but I think Malkin can make anyone look really good too.

- Thorny

You're not alone on this one....but we have to think he has a good cap for a 40 goal scorer. Ideally I'd want a more defensive responsible forward (and someone faster) who could chip in 25-30 goals every year.

If Neal can work on his defensive flaws and skating it would be a different story. I'm banking on it.

Another thing is we cannot afford to trade Niskanen if Letang leaves and we can't bring anything substantial for our group of d-men.

I hope Shero doesn't take too long trying to extend Letang and miss out on the other guys (mainly Dupuis, Cooke and Murray)

I think they should trade niskanen first get the ap space from that going to the letang extension and if that fakes you can trade letang for pieces you need and still have space to sign guys like dupuis and Cooke.

Very good blog

I would try and make a deal with a team looking to make changes. Will be a ton of interest. This team is a contender with or without Letang. You very well could get a 1st rounder and top 6 forward for him at or before the draft.

The thing is Shero knows we can't afford Letang for more than $6.5M...if he wants more, trade his ass.

Dylan Reese signed a 3 year deal in the KHL. That kind of sucks, I thought he could of been a 6/7th defenseman if Engelland, Niskanen, and Bortuzzo were sent. Hopefully he will be getting a bigger role there

It really depends on who we keep (dupuis, Cooke, Kennedy, Iggy, etc...). If duper and Cooke take a nifty hometown discount, the pens can keep Letang at 7-7.5 per year, and will then need to rely on a few entry level contracts until the cap goes back up. Guys like Megna, Zlobin, Blueger, or even Macaroni (marcantuoni) will hopefully have a spot on the team in 2 years when Malkins and letangs contract kick in

Macaroni&Cheese haha I'd like to see Zach Sill and Dominik Uher to fill out our bottom lines. Don't forget about Kuehnhackl. Btw, I wouldn't like to see us pay $7.5M to Letang. I'd rather trade him, unfortunately.

What will be the key piece if Shero wants to give him 7+ per season will be if he's given a limited NMC. Maybe a list of 5-10 teams Letang can give. That will give Shero room to work if our D prospects to step up or one of them does shine

If Ovechkin wins the Hart it would be the equivalent of the guy who runs the last 5 miles of the marathon. Shameful, if Crosby doesn't win then Tavares was certainly more deserving than OV.

Isn't that the truth. OV missed a good chunk of the season too, except he was still on the ice.

I already thought Subban didn't deserve to get the Norris. Suter was my pick, Letang coming in 2nd.

Crosby should get it. He's always ahead of everyone else. Tavares in 2nd.

Thats a terrible way to compare things. Because for Pitts it would be the other way around. And Letang would def hold a higher value in the market. Kessel had one great season and the rest were just good. Letang is a stud.
- poisondhearts37

One good year? I guess you don't watch the Leafs...he has scored 30+ goals 5 straight seasons, and if this season was a full schedule, it would be 6 straight...along with 2 straight seasons at a PPG...6th in the NHL in scoring last year, tied for 7th this year...all while playing with Bozak as his centre...imagine what he would do with a good, playmaking centre?

I don't know man. Tough call there. I like Gardiner. I think he has some upside. How is his defensive game btw?Can he play physical? Gets caught out of position easily?
- Orpik44

He worked on his defensive game quite a bit this year with Eakins while playing with the Marlies, but he isn't an physical guy. He is very calm and cool with the puck and a great skater...in the playoffs he looked like a seasoned veteran out there, getting into the play, making things happen...I would hate to see him go...
He does pinch in quite a bit, but he has the speed to get back...

Particularly I'd would love to get Gardiner. Seems to be a good talent. I was impressed by him the two or three games I've watched him play. Kulemin and a 1st would make this deal ideal to me.

How does Subban win the Norris when he only had more power play points than Letang? Suter was by far the better defensman of the 2 and still put up awesome numbers. Suter and Letang had more time on the PK and even strength, and Letang had a much better +/- in less games...I'm confused

Sad, writers should not be voting for the Hart, that is embarrassing.
