Love to keep Letang at a decent cost under 6.25 mil for max years with nmc/ntc..
if he wants more than trade him for a couple of picks and player/prospect (hopefully winger)
also hope he gets traded to West coast team...
this draft is deep.... - nh4442

LA has a superstar offensive defenseman though |

If I'm pittsburgh I build the team around letang malkin and crosby and trade away fleury's cap hit. Letang and karlsson are in a leagur of their own with puck moving ability, you don't let that walk away haha |

Not that good of a deal for Pens IMO...Ballard has negative value...so its basically Edler and Gaunce for a signed Letang? 2nd=Kennedy/Jeffrey
I think lots of teams could top that...
Wouldn't a deal of something like: Kulemin, Gardiner or Rielly and a 1st for a signed Letang be something more interesting for the Pens? - BoBBeR56
I like the return there. Is MacArthur available? Gardiner would definitely be the key there. |

Mac is a UFA...
I thought a young PMD with a great contract would be preferred over a guy like Edler...even though Edler has more experience.
I personally thought a return of Gardiner, Kulemin and a 1st is much better than Edler, Gaunce, Ballard and a 2nd... |

I didnt read through all the posts. But read a good blog and then realized it was from another poster on these here blogs. Good write up and hope you get a gig writing here.
I think the pens should keep Letang. But if Shero feels one of these kids is ready soon then move him for a crap ton of pieces. Also agree with the guy who said the pens dont need a stud offensive guy on the back end. But it doesnt hurt the lighten the load on Sid and Geno. Letang creates alot for those guys to look good to. |

I don't know man. Tough call there. I like Gardiner. I think he has some upside. How is his defensive game btw?Can he play physical? Gets caught out of position easily? |

Terrible, terrible deal for the Leafs...
Kessel > Letang
Reimer & Gardiner > Fleury - BoBBeR56
Thats a terrible way to compare things. Because for Pitts it would be the other way around. And Letang would def hold a higher value in the market. Kessel had one great season and the rest were just good. Letang is a stud. |

I love it but I think we'd have to add here...+ they already have Doughty.
Montreal, St.Louis, Edmonton, Vancouver..
Btw....getting Edler/Gaunce/1st Round Pick would not be a bad idea.

St.Louis doesnt need him either though. If Shero makes him available there will be a ton of calls coming in. |

If I were running the show I wouldnt even kick the tires on a deal. I think and know Letang is a stud. But we already have two guys. We are going to have an issue just trying to resign Voynov. I hope Brown retires a King. Id look at EDM for one of theyre one billion untouchable wonder boys. Or find a younger PWR forward to grow with the team to help create space for Sid, Geno and Neal. |

The thing for Pitts also is that theyre top 3 defensive prospects are atleast 1 to 3 years away from making the jump. |

We'd love to get Eberle on a deal for Letang. Straight up....but I doubt they'd get rid of him. Something like their 7th Round pick+Smid+something else would work as well.
Dustin Brown would be awessome on Sid's wing |

i hope you're talking about crosby or malkin coming back and not letang. edler and a 2nd would be a fair deal. i wouldn't trade you gaunce and a 1st for letang let alone all 3 assets. it's common for fans to overvalue their players but this is ridiculous.

To be honest, I don't know much about Edler's game. I was just throwing the idea. Let the GMs work on it. |

In trading scenarios, I think the following conditions must be met:
1) A solid top 4 defenseman under 30. Someone who is not enigmatic, gets their defensive job done and can move the puck. Think Despres in 2 years kind of player.
We will have to adapt if Letang moves on, but I think that could be a good thing. It will force the forwards to open up simple plays and support the defenseman. There will be no choice but to play a no-nonsense system, and I think that will pay dividends come playoff time. Its also easier to make small adjustments in a simple system. If Letang played like that, no-one would be questioning whether or not to keep him, we would be saying HOW.
2) An NHL ready prospect on an ELC. Top 6 forward potential.
In a few years, we will have Kunitz and Dupuis coming up to the end of their effective careers and we need young top 6 wingers. If we need both Maatta and Pouliot, we cannot get them through trade.
3) A first round pick at minimum.
4) A total contract value of $6M or less.
(BONUS 5) A Shero Special throw-in bottom 6 with size so we can dump Glass) |

If you guys got a few minutes, here's a really good read on the state of the Pens.
It's in a round table format and features a good variety of local hockey minds.

A couple quotes from this article about Bylsma that I think we can all agree on:
Colligan: Many of the breakdowns I saw were a result of missed assignments by the defense. There was too much shuffling of defensive pairs and not only changing personnel but also having players move from right defense to left defense and vice versa. At playoff pace, you can't afford to think. You have to react. Pittsburgh's defensemen were thinking too much. Simplify, simplify, simplify.
Conboy: But what is this team supposed to be? I’m confused. What’s the identity? They got like six rebounds the entire Bruins series.
