Laughton has gotten all he can get out of playing Junior at this point. Let him start the season centering the Flyers 4th line and seeing some time on the PK. So what if he only gets 8-10 mins per game. He will learn more in those 8-10 mins and in practicing with the Flyers then he will in playing a 4th year in the OHL.

Sure lot of Nervous Nelly talk overnight:

1) Worry over Streit: someone (sorry, on my phone and it's hard to scroll around & find the post) put it succinctly that he will not have to do as much here as he did on Lawn Guyland. That is to both his and the Flyers' benefit.

2) The Pens' farm is stronger than the Flyers'. So what? It's because the Flyers' products are all up with the big team. You can't have it both ways: youth in quantities on the NHL roster and on the Phantoms/juniors. Last I checked they still have Ghost, Cousins, Laughton, Leier, etc. are still reported on here by Bill -- as are the youngsters still on the Seravalling NHL roster.

I thought this is Philadelphia: Go bold or go home. The Flyers go bold. Because they aim to win.

is he any good at faceoffs? i felt like hall's faceoff ability made an immediate positive impact on puck possession but i don't follow those advanced stats...

If he can develop into a face-off man, that would be an improvement on the fourth line. In seven NHL games over the last two years, his record in the face-off circle is 20-for-46 (43%).

The kid is a bulldog. I honestly think this preseason and to start the season he's going to be determined to not be sent to junior. I think it will be clear. His game should lend a lot to the play of the 4th line

Agreed. In fact, let's keep him in the OHL as an over-ager 2 years from now. Why are we in such a rush? In fact, let's see if we can let the CHL keep him there until he's about 26; we don't want to burn those ELC years.

To me, give him another 8 game tryout. If he shows he belong sin the NHL, then he stays up. If he's not going to cut it, send him back and you save your precious ELC years and goes and steamrolls a bunch of 17/18 year olds.

I just wish he was eligible for the AHL. That's where he really belongs.

The opposite of this is how I feel. I want him eased into the NHL and that doesn't happen if he is counted on to be our 3rd line center next year after a big trade that sends a promising young center away. He wold be meat thrown to the dogs in Philly. No thank you! If he looks ready at camp, then let hm anchor the 4th line and move up if/when injuries occur. Best use of his ELC IMHO is to play him when he shows he is ready and make him earn every step of the way up the ladder.

I love how he's playing on a 2-man line with Jay Rosehill, the Flyers will never have any injuries that cause him to move up, will never slide up to fill in on the 3rd line from time to time, and will see no PK time.

Claude Giroux did it when he was 19 as I recall and it worked out OK.

Yes, but he will also be playing down in talent.

If he has a good camp, I dont think there is any reason they should send him down..

boomslam! but not actually relevant and shouldn't have been brought up to begin with. They are different players and will develop at different times. 4th line duty would be great for him next year IMHO.

Claude Giroux was 19 years old entering the 2007-08 season playing with Gatineau.

Just as Laughton will be 19 entering this coming season.
