Your all wrong... go to cap geek.... its (the amount paid-cap hit)/years left on contract.......
His Salary over the next 7 years in millions of dollars is 10,10,10,8.5,4,1.5,1
There are no savings when he retires because there is no salary and no cap hit
so if he plays: 3 years (30-(3*7.727)/4(years left) = 1.7 per year
4 years = (38.5-(4*7.7)/3= 2.53 for 3 years
5 years = (42.5-38.635) =1.9325 for 2 years
I long for the day that people quit stating "Facts" before they do the research and argue vehemently about stuff they haven't read up on - jribout

when are you comin out to live the dream? - JIMI-JAMES
....we had plans to come down this summer but our close friends are getting married in about a week in Italy...so all my vacation time and money is going to that!
On top of that...it sounds like my grandmother (as shes getting older) is entertaining selling the cottage we ahve up there. Might consider buying it as its valued at around 40k!!!! and its off the freakn ocean! Close to an acre of land, too. Only problem, is the damn thing is too far to visit often |

Giving him a long contract sounds like a bad idea. Bad bad. - robin_steele264
They can always put him on LTIR for "back pain" or some other non-provable ailment.
Still a bad idea, though.
Too bad we aren't fighting them for a playoff spot anymore. |

prime rib steak with freshly caught trout over an open fire with a bunch of beer out in the middle of nowhere beside a lake..... - JIMI-JAMES
On a somewhat related note:
Has everyone seen the beer commercial (I think it's Moosehead) where the group of young hipsters climb a mountain with a cooler full of bottles of beer?
WTF?
What effing morons bring bottles camping? And to climb a mountain?

well thats true.
but comparing me to Alice Cooper would be something like comparing Johnny Hackjob on the Mt Brydges Bulldogs Junior D team to Wendel Clark |

Few years back I was at a family reunion and the old uncles place we were staying at had a very large man made lake in his backyard. Believe me, its large enough to be considered a freakn lake. Anyways...he had a floating dock about 150 yards or so from shore and we wanted to take beers with us and go sit out on the water for a bit...I cleverly decided to fill a bag with about 6 or 8 beers and attach them to my swimming shorts and swim them over (by that point I was already several beers in). Not only was it one of the most difficult swims ive experienced, but the temp. of the water warmed the beers and they were just barely drinkable.
Good times. |

When he's talking about cap savings, in the context of the cap advantage recapture formula, he's not talking about how much cap comes off the book if a guy retires, he's talking about the year to year amounts that the cap hit is less than salary. You seemed to have flipped over to referring to the amount of cap that comes off the books, if a player retires, as cap savings. That’s not really what we’re talking about in this context.
And his numbers are totally accurate. |

Hey look here, capgeek.com has a cap advantage recapture calculator. Just found this. And here it is with Vincent Lecavalier, traded this summer, and retiring with two years left on his contract filled in:
http://www.capgeek.com/re...f_season_traded_year=2013
Note:
If Vincent Lecavalier retires or defects in the 2018 off-season (age 38 as of July 1 that year), and was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2013 off-season, following is an estimated breakdown of the recapture penalties for the involved teams.
Team Benefit
Penalty
Tampa Bay Lightning (2018-19 through 2019-20) $9,090,909 $4,545,455
Toronto Maple Leafs (2018-19 through 2019-20) $3,863,636 $1,931,818
The penalties, $2M per season for the Leafs, and $4.6M for the Lightning, are EXACTLY what I said in my first post explaining the rule, and the guy that you’re STILL responding to and telling everybody they’re wrong. When it’s YOU that is wrong.
