Your all wrong... go to cap geek.... its (the amount paid-cap hit)/years left on contract.......
His Salary over the next 7 years in millions of dollars is 10,10,10,8.5,4,1.5,1
There are no savings when he retires because there is no salary and no cap hit
so if he plays: 3 years (30-(3*7.727)/4(years left) = 1.7 per year
4 years = (38.5-(4*7.7)/3= 2.53 for 3 years
5 years = (42.5-38.635) =1.9325 for 2 years
I long for the day that people quit stating "Facts" before they do the research and argue vehemently about stuff they haven't read up on - jribout
EXACTLY. Other than me using rounded numbers, and $38.5M instead of $38.625, $2M for 2 years. Precisely what I said.
So, let's say the Leafs trade for Vinny, and he plays 5 years, then retires at 38. To make it quick, I'll just tell you the numbers. $42.5M in salary paid, $38.5 cap hit, for a difference of $4M. That $4M would be the cap advantage recapture amount for the Leafs.
So, if he retires at that time, he has 2 years left on his contract. The $4M cap hit that the Leafs saved, gets applied over the 2 years, and it's $2M over 2 years. The Lightning get that $9.2M over 2 years, and their hit is $4.6M for 2 years. - Dirte
If he goes on to play a 6th year, the cap hit on retirement decreases, due to the sixth year having a salary lower than cap hit. Similarly, if he's traded next summer, one more year of big cap advantage gone, a team he's traded to will have a lower hit on retirement.
I'd be willing to bet they just keep him though. |

Really???

Streit, BTW, is a 35+ contract, meaning cap hit counts even if he retires/quits. Likely be looking for long-term deal in $5M/yr range.

yeah, my mistake, I thought that was taken out given that cap recapture would take care of the cap advantages from a front load.
That actually presents an interesting scenario. If they're at full cap hit on a front loaded contract signed after 35, if they retire early, there actually is the possibility of a conract having higher cap hit than salary over the life of the contract.
Regardless, it has nothing to do with Vinny's contract. It doesn't apply. |
