Kessel should get something between 6.5-7M max. Phaneuf id try to lowball even less than 5, probably 4-4.5 - Mapleleafs_91

Phaneuf is overrated. Slow and makes mistakes. They cannot overpay him and or sign him long term for any money because he should NOT be captain past 2014. He was ok when LEAFS were mediocre.but they are now at the point where there is more talent than him on the team and he won't have the players respect much longer. Can you imagine Dion trying to change the music in the locker room if its someone like Joe Thornton or iginla Toronto brings in ? I can see him getting jerseyed. |

No. He's done. I dont want him.
And you're underrating Phaneuf. He wasn't perfect, sure, but the team asked too much of him. With the minutes he had to play, and the partners he had to play with, everybody and their grandma would have been having a tough time.
Give him a real number 2 partner and he'll be fine goddamnit.
We have bgger problems than Phaneuf. |

Incorrect. "This penalty applies to any team that received a cap advantage from the contract — ie. a traded contract."
Do you really need to go through the math again 7 years * 7.727 = 50.9.
50.9-42.5=8.4
8.4/2 = what? - SameOld
Your all wrong... go to cap geek.... its (the amount paid-cap hit)/years left on contract.......
His Salary over the next 7 years in millions of dollars is 10,10,10,8.5,4,1.5,1
There are no savings when he retires because there is no salary and no cap hit
so if he plays: 3 years (30-(3*7.727)/4(years left) = 1.7 per year
4 years = (38.5-(4*7.7)/3= 2.53 for 3 years
5 years = (42.5-38.635) =1.9325 for 2 years
I long for the day that people quit stating "Facts" before they do the research and argue vehemently about stuff they haven't read up on |

The Tampa rumour: it's one of those deals that doesn't really make sense.
Tampa gives up their 3rd overall pick in a really deep draft year (Drouin, Mackinnon maybe? Barkov?) for a marginal gain in buyout (Grabovski's 4 years vs 7 more of Vinny), some mid-level roster players (Frattin, Kulemin?), and picks (2nd, 3rd?)
Just looks kind of bad all around. - gravyface
They also get Vinnie back at a good rate |

There's a rule I do believe which says if a player retires after a certain age with time left on his contract, said team is still on the hook for those years. I do believe that's the real reason why Pronger is still on LTIR rather than retiring, and Calgary will be getting stuck with Kippers cap hit if he retires this offseason. - mykokes

I feel he's worth a contract similar to Martin in Pittsburgh.
5-5.5 for 4-5 years seems about right. |

Maybe. But he's still an elephant in the room. Literally and figuratively. He coughs up the puck at crucial times. He is slow. He hits the glass and boards with 75% of his shots. Pinches at the wrong times. Misses on a lot of hits. Won't drop the gloves. Skates away when people are banging kessel after the whistle. Like Wtf ! Wake up Dion. Why doesn't he play like he did in Calgary ? |

Did you not just read the post that I explained the Roberto Luongo rule, and how it would apply to Vinny?
And who are you trying to kid, that you were (incorrectly) referring to the old over 35 contract rule from the OLD CBA, when you said " the team with him would get a substantial cap penalty because he would be 35+". Which, by the way, is gone now. And wouldn't have applied anyway, even if they kept that rule. - Dirte
Really???
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 12 Jun
Streit, BTW, is a 35+ contract, meaning cap hit counts even if he retires/quits. Likely be looking for long-term deal in $5M/yr range.

But it doesn't exist anymore. |

What I would be most concerned with in the buying out Vinny proposal is the rection by the league. It is clearly a way to circumnavigate cap restraints and they sure put the screws to the NJD pretty hard (taking away a 1st round pick of their choice within 3 years). I personally see no issues with working within the rules and in fact like seeing people find loop holes, the league does not share my opinion though. |

He will get 4 yrs at 5ish M. Not happy with it but it is what it is, Flyers are up a river without a paddle. |

Kulemin's been brutal, according to the standards he set for himself.
So was Grabovski. |

Yup the 35+ rule. Which dirte elegantly pointed out is not the same as the cap advantage saving rule, even though he has no idea how that works. - SameOld
First, it's the cap advantage RECAPTURE rule, and yes I do. It's a $2M cap hit if he's traded this summer and retires with 2 years left. $4.8 to Tampa.
It's you that doesn't know how it works.
