okay, I'll tell you you're math is bad. Over the next 5 years, $42.5M in salary is due. At 7.7 cap hit, 5 * 7.7 = $38.5M. that's a $4M difference, not 8.4.
- Dirte

The last two years where he retired would also count as cap savings.

You don't get cap savings from a player retired. Also, with a salary less than cap hit, that makes no sense.

So a retired players cap is still on the team? Oh right

Actually, if he were to be traded this summer, and play 6 more years, no recapture to the Leafs. If he were to be traded next summer, and play 5, no cap recapture. If he plays 4, under $1M.

I know it's tough to understand that traditionally a player that retires is saving his team from a cap hit but being as smart as you are, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

I was taking the cap penalty part as the principle point, but keep being a douchebag. You're totally winning. Got to admit. When you respond like a mean girl with 'uuumm yeah, not how it works', you are leaving it pretty open ended as to what exactly you're referring to.

But hey, keep showing us 'idiots' your big know it all pecker, and tell us more about how the 35+ rule doesn't exist anymore. (frank)ing asshat.

He said substantial cap hit because he'd be over 35. That's totally wrong. Worse case scenario is about a $2M cap hit. WORSE case.

Incorrect. "This penalty applies to any team that received a cap advantage from the contract — ie. a traded contract."

Do you really need to go through the math again 7 years * 7.727 = 50.9.

50.9-42.5=8.4

8.4/2 = what?

I've had Du hast and Eye of the Tiger playing while these guys go at it! Best fight I've seen since McClaren vs Druzzzzzzinski

omg. Yes, I know. But the cap avantage already realized sticks with Tampa. There isn't much of it left for the next team, and in a couple of years, it starts to reverse, and the cap advantage realize actually starts to correct itself, since the guy is getting paid less than cap hit. When he's paid more than cap hit, it accumulates cap advantage. If he's paid less, there is no cap hit advantage. Quite the opposite.

Please tell me again how the Leafs would not be saving a cap hit if he retired with two years left?

Did you take a look at this trade proposal?

Vinny Lecavalier + 3rd overall pick (potential franchise player)

in return of a UFA to be, Kulemin who's been terrible for 2 years straight and a bunch of random picks thrown in for good measure.

I mean, Come on...

- Pecafan Fan

3rd overall pick, potential franchise player? What would you place the odds at?

Lets look back.....

Year Player Pos. Drafted From Drafted By
2012 Alex Galchenyuk C Sarnia (OHL) Montreal Canadiens
2011 Jonathan Huberdeau C/LW Saint John (QMJHL) Florida Panthers
2010 Erik Gudbranson D Kingston (OHL) Florida Panthers
2009 Matt Duchene C Brampton (OHL) Colorado Avalanche
2008 Zach Bogosian D Peterborough (OHL) Atlanta Thrashers
2007 Kyle Turris C Burnaby (BCHL) Phoenix Coyotes
2006 Jonathan Toews C North Dakota (WCHA) Chicago Blackhawks
2005 Jack Johnson D U.S. Junior National Team (Intl) Carolina Hurricanes
2004 Cam Barker D Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) Chicago Blackhawks
2003 Nathan Horton C Oshawa Generals (OHL) Florida Panthers
2002 Jay Bouwmeester D Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) Florida Panthers
2001 Alexandr Svitov C Omsk Avangard (Russia) Tampa Bay Lightning
2000 Marian Gaborik LW Dukla Trencin (Slovak) Minnesota Wild

I see a couple franchise players there sure, in bold, a couple of elite guys underlined....and a couple of busts, we're not talking wayne gretzky here pff. To get out of 20,000,000- I would say its not as bad a proposal as you make it out to be. I would expect the leafs to part with a 1st and someone like Percy in the deal too though.
