Garth needs to stop making deals within our conference. Especially with teams that OWN us, historically. Taking salary/cap hits off the hands of NJ Devils(rolston) and Bruins(Thomas) didn't really help the Isles in any way(especially Rolston-complete bust AND $5Million in salary - and PA salary was too much?) other than get to the floor. He'd be better as Head Scout and Wang should find an established GM who knows the do's & don't's of the job better. His inexperience shows through at nearly every turn. I don't care if he's the nicest guy in the world and make cookies for the neighborhood kids and rescues puppies from the shelter, this is a results driven world. He's had 6 years and we're STILL 2-3 away from being serious contenders. We could get there sooner with the right GM. JT has a shelf-life and it's year 5 of his career. Pittsburgh was better 2 years after crosby was drafted. Was in the Stanley Cup 4 years into his career. We're NO WHERE CLOSE to getting to finals because Garth can only develop talent and is incapable of trading for the difference makers this team needs. HE SWEARS money isn't the issue, so WTF is he waiting for?

If he does the right thing this offseason and the team shows progression you can laugh at that post if we don't there's some truth in it. Looking fwd to this draft and FA it should be a good indicator of what Snow realistically thinks he has with this team.

ya of course and if he "does the right thing" this is something to laugh at, but at that point its obvious...either yes, good signing/trade OR bad signing/trade... im laughing at the fact that everyone has the same OVERALL opinion of this team, which is that its future is bright and headed in the right direction but yet JMO still cant see that.

His timing is definitely off. Some folks will never admit Garth did or is doing a good job no matter what. We've seen most here gradually at least become a bit more receptive to the overall direction. It's like dealing with political spin....

We made the POs and made a little noise. Team showed some progression. It's positive but there are more questions then definitive answers and there are the usual tons of maybe going into this season. I'll hold off on the Snow praising till I see some sound decision making this off season. If he makes some good moves/signings you'll see more people come around to a positive tone when talking about Snow. I'm happy the team seems to have turned a corner but when the maybe become more definitive ill be applauding him as a GM. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm doing some head shaking in July but I have a more open mind, he's earned that so far IMO.

I can understand that. And you, one of the more outspoken critics over the last couple of years, are an example of someone who has laid off the criticism for the moment based on the positive signs. No one's asking you to champion Snow or anything of the sort, but you're capable of recognizing the strides we've made and willing to see how it pans out. I think nearly everyone has taken that stance at this point...except for a few

It's all going to be about the results. While I would love to see the Isles make an impact move I'm fine with giving the young prospects a shot this year. The team needs to keep moving forward and if they can do that with the young talent and no big moves than fine.

Making the playoffs was big for me in terms of giving more time to Snow. Having said this the team cannot have a big dropoff this year. If the team misses the playoffs and no impact moves were made Snow is really going to hear it. We really need to see the team win a playoff round this year.

Absolutely. Put the right personnel in the correct spot. Whether it be through trade or promoting a kid who is ready and not rushing him. Like I said, sound decision making. That's all I want as a fan.i can't deal with the head scratching moves or non moves, I can't relate to them.

I think we will see if he brings in more washed up vets this year, or what he is going to with DP, and the goaltending situation.

I really have little faith in Snow has not proved anything yet to me and next year to me is a make it or break it year for him.

Has Jack been signed yet??

Tough to say what'll happen next season. Over 82 games, things might be different than they were over 48. For example, would Montreal have hung onto 2nd place overall if it was an 82 game season? It's just as likely 6-8 wouldn't have looked the same either. Maybe the Isles would have stayed hot and finished better. Maybe the carriage turns back into a pumpkin and they fall outside the top 8. Who knows? I'm trying not to ride too high based on making the playoffs in the short season. But there are definitely positives that can't be denied.

The best thing to come from the season was the actual playoff experience for these guys, and seeing that there are players on the team who absolutely can rise to the occasion and play competitively when it really matters. I'm really looking forward to next season...wondering how this team comes out of the gate in October and whether they can really get it going over a full season.

Rght just solid moves. I do not need to see the Isles try sign every FA and make a ton of trades. I'm not looking for the payroll to explode.

i hear that and agree but every team has maybes...on the total opposite end of the "maybe" spectrum, after the trade deadline NO ONE was questioning if the penguins were the HEAVY favorites to win the SC, maybe they should have? nothing and no team is ever "definitive" and i dont think there are more questions than answers...

and also as for july, sometimes the best move is not making a move (IE signing streit would have been awful for the team), also bc of buyouts and whatnot more moves could happen in august and september, when rosters are being trimmed down.

Well I still want to see what he does in a full season. This is a telling year for the whole organization. Can they repeat the success from last year? I feel they have to make the playoffs next year. If they do then well I will give all the props in the world to the whole organization

Absolutely agree. To an extent... The less maybes the better. The Penguins are a good example of having all the talent in the world but if you don't have the chemistry it means nothing. It wasn't so much a case of question marks as it was chemistry. Not the kind of "maybes" I was referring too. We have legitimate question marks. Can Donovan play a top 4 role that he seems to have been annointed with already? Who is playing on JT's wing? Goaltending? Can we get a more physical player on our blue line(glaringly obvious need)? Is Nelson, Strome, or Nino ready for prime time and if not who is filling those spots is there a plan B? These are REAL maybes to me that is why I've been saying this is Snow's biggest offseason especially since expectations are a little higher now after the teams resurgence. I also agree with you that he doesn't have to do much. Just put the right players in the right spots and maybe add a player or two not expecting any big FA signings/trades and i don't think they are neccesary but these personnel decisions themselves are huge and like i've said recently will IMO define him as a GM and his true direction. Very big off season for him.

First they took rolston for 1 year at 5 million but dumped Trent hunter's 2 years at 2 million, so good move as they had nothing to lose. If you check their previous picks, they are finally stacked with good young talent which we haven't had in a while. Players like Crosby come around once every 10 years or so, so unfair comparison. we're finally close after a good season and playoff so let's be optimistic
- NYI_since_72

And what did Lou do? He put Hunter on waivers and LA picked him up, thus SAVING $2.5 Million, while we PAID Rolston $5M to eat up a spot with his "veteran leadership and PP prowess"(he sucked arse) and then traded him & Pandawful to Boston for a compulsory return of never-gonna-make-it-to-the-show players. LOSER: Islanders

Crosby is a player that comes around MAYBE once a generation, not every decade. I wouldn't put JT quite as high as Sid but try and remember how many years we were awful to be picking Top 5 consistently and that we were bad enough the year JT hit the draft. With no knock on Moulson, I love the guy, but where did we get him???? Garth's idea of complimenting a player who broke Gretzky's Junior records was to put a longshot free agent and a waiver pick up on his wings. Brilliant. Really, visionary thinking and SO ahead of the curve, no other GM would have thought to do it the same. Garth is blazing trails with his innovative approach. READ: COULDN'T SIGN BIG NAME PLAYER BECAUSE NO ONE HAD CONFIDENCE TO GO TO A LOSING ORGANIZATION WITH NO NAME GM & COACHING.

And as for "Being Close"....close to what? Being in the playoffs? Whoopdi-Do. That only means you need to be a little over .500 to make playoffs. What did that get us? 6 extra games - two of which we were SCHOOLED and shown what an elite team can do, of which we are no where close to being. CONCLUSION: TEAM DIDN'T HAVE THE AMMUNITION REQUIRED AND COACHING COULDN'T PREPARE THE TEAM FOR THE TASK AT HAND.

I am not pooping on everything. The team has improved. There are pieces in place and players with promise. I'm thrilled to see the team getting better but I just don't see the REAL improvement required to carry this team further - deep into playoffs. What happens if JT gets injured? Or Hamonic? Or Nabby? What then? What players can you say are capable of stepping up and filling the hole? None. Will our inexperienced coach alter the system to compensate? Doubtful. All you guys who argue my points are living in fantasy land. To think that an inexperienced GM who only hires inexperienced coaches has it all figured out is living in denial or you're just not smart enough to see the writing on the wall. I challenge Garth to prove me wrong but I'll bet any of you a prime seat to the game of your choice next season that no major player-for-player trades or big name Free agents signings will occur this off-season for the Isles. I'll bet the beers for said game that he moves down in the draft (for later round pick(s)) to choose a player that only he realizes is undervalued. AND, that we have not seen the end of RDP in an Islanders jersey.

Bring on the skeptics,...pardon I meant the experts.
