how does paul holmgren still have a job? flyer ownership needs to stop living in the 70s and bring in a GM who actually knows something about hockey, and stop the trips down memory lane with guys like Clarke and Holmgren. - devfan30
zidlicky would have played a similar role at a fraction of the cost. streit will cost the flyers 6M/yr.
flyers are like the oilers which is why they both have great young talent and little else. former players do not make executives. philly seemed to have the right pieces aside from a goalie just a couple years ago. what the hell happened? |

Talking about washed up, that is Zidlicky. Streit has four more productive years ahead of him. |

Kind of simple where it all went wrong from a couple of yrs ago.

Two of their key guys play for the defending Stanley cup champs now, and the younger guys they replaced them with regressed. |

What are you talking about? That he traded for the rights to a dman that we desperately need to fix the D corps? That it's a fourth rounder and an AHLer or that Streit is a 70's type goonish player? |

Flyers made a good move. They buyout Briere, put Pronger on LTIR. They will have a healthy dcore, that looks pretty good next season.
Timonen, Coburn
Streit, Grossman
Schenn, Meszaros
Gustafsson
Why would you buy you Bryz when you finally have a healthy core like that in front of him, They could easily trade up for Nurse, and have Cousins waiting in the weeds. This potential signing just gives them a lot more options now this summer - DDM-Coga
Spot on. I think it's a good move. I expect him to sign, and we buy out Briere but not Bryz. Bryz may get the axe next summer though depending on how things go this year. |

If he's not not gonna Homer will do what he did with Hamuis and Nabakov and trade his rights to another team. He's not an idiot like all u make him out to belive. Streit has only been in the league 7 years and his body doesn't have the wear and tear on it like other 35 year olds in this league. He can still skate really good and moves the puck great. He'll add to our already expolosive PP units and if you pair him with a Grossman or a Coburn that adds to a great pairing.

We have. Read some of the earlier posts. But we're also not blind to the reality of the situation that his "D" zone play has regressed significantly since the season before his shoulder injury. He is a bottom pair d-man as far as his defensive skills are concerned. He is a well above average offensive d-man. If you're okay with Streit playing top PP and bottom pair minutes, then you'll be happy with him. For the Isles, it didn't make sense to commit to Streit for 3 or more years at $5M or more after re-signing Visnovsky for two more years and with numerous defensive prospects that will likely be ready for the NHL during the duration of Streit's contract. |

Flyers dont have to buy out both Briere and Bryz to make this work. You misquoted Bob Mckenzie there.
Briere was all but certain to be bought out anyway for what it's worth. - hereticpride
The Flyers are $2million above the cap. Streit will command $5-$6 million per season. I wouldn't be shocked if both were bought out.

Exactly. I want the prospects to play. If Donovan makes the team this year, then he can develop and be way better than Streit by the time Streit's contract expires. |

To folks who haven't watched Streit play much over the last two years, this may seem like a nice spot for him, but they'll learn fast. He's a defensive liability at this point and his powerplay work is overrated. The guy has very good hands and is a smooth skater, but that Penguins series exposed just how slow he's become. Add the fact that he lacks any physicality whatsoever and folks we'll be griping in Philly about his 4 year $20mil+ contract almost instantly.
I think the Flyers caught lightning in a bottle a couple of years ago and are now back to earth. This team needs help in a few areas. Not to mentin people majorly jumped the gun on just how good Giroux is. The moment Jagr left, he looked awfully ordinary. Adding more high priced geezers to the lineup won't help. Not to mention losing a juggernaut like Pronger is a death blow.
As for Bryz, the guy is a friggin' headcase who needs to spend time on a leather couch. He is in no way shape or form cutout for the media/public pressure of Philadelphia. Snider has the money that he should buy that nutjob out NOW.

You have no idea. You could back read prior to the deadline at just how many of us were hoping he'd be traded. He's a good guy and had good natural skill but he refuses to play with physicality and is constantly getting caught below the goal line. Add the fact that his inability to trap pucks in the offensive zone leads to numerous odd man rushes, it won't take long for the Plilly fans to let him hear it.
I was already done with him at the end of last year but watching him constantly get blown by on full rink icings during the series with the Pens told me that one of his last relevant skills was gone as well
Most of us consider it addition by subtraction.

Malkin signed for 8 years $76 million. This means the Pens have signed two players to 28.3% of their salary. Those two players have missed 32.7% of games over the last four seasons

sour? We were ALL calling for him to be traded this season or resigned at a reduced rate considering his reduced ability.

Streit is a small defenseman who is not going to fix your D corps.
He is going to sign an over 35 contract which has its own issues.
He is a -41 the last two years (even with the shortened season) and has only been a plus player once (+6) in his 9 year NHL career. |
