Because they made the playoffs Capuano gets some credit. Capuano is NOT a good coach. I'll eat my words this year if need be but unfortunately I don't think that will be happening? |

hahahaha...all of a sudden, isles make the playoffs and its not enough. you gotta crawl before you walk. let it develop. and you must have not watched the playoff series because the penguins were absolutely sweating!!! isles gave them a run for their money and in fact they outplayed the pens in the series.
john tavares was drafted 2 years into a rebuild that garth started off with nothing; its probably garths fault that no free agents werent banging down the doors to play in a poopty arena with a depleted roster...(frank) you garth!!!
and by the way, the garth is an inexperienced GM is getting old..in july itll be his 7th year as a GM. maybe give the guy a little bit of credit for starting with zero (and had a poopty arena working against him) and developing a team that made it to the playoffs and the best has yet to come with a VERY healthy and promising pool of prospects. how you cant see that is astonishing.
again, you can say those who give garth pros are "living in a fantasy land" but every expert agrees with us. you are in the minority at this point. - LetsGoIsles
The question I keep having discussions with people is, if it was a full season, would the Isles make the playoffs? Or would they have been picking again in the top 5....
I know some have homerism for Bailey, KO, Grabs, and feel that bc of their playoff performance that they might have turned the corner, but honestly hope i'm wrong, but I just don't see them progressing here, maybe on another team.
Next year might be the exact team with little difference's of adding minor players to replace the one's who left, and in a full season, just don't think we will sniff the playoffs unless we upgrade certain positions with GREATER talent......
So bc Snow has warned that not much tinkering will be done, please do not expect a playoff-caliber season..... Until our kids/prospects gain NHL experience or this team goes to Brooklyn, Wang will not add a single $$$$ to help improve this team, until Wang rids himself of the bad Coliseum deal..... I expect signings to reach the cap floor, and maybe over-pay a player for 1 yr just for cap purposes...."which is sad"

Really can't complain if AO wins it though. It would be nice for JT but I'll be surprised if he wins - Vukota
AO decided to play half way through the season, really doesn't deserve it. Pitt is still great team without Cindy, |

I'll bet any of you a prime seat to the game of your choice next season that no major player-for-player trades or big name Free agents signings will occur this off-season for the Isles. - jmo16
and it doesn't matter if he doesn't.
because when he does make a trade its not good enough. That's not the guy you wanted him to trade for.
When he does sign a player it wont be the one you wanted so we wont count that one.

With no knock on Moulson, I love the guy, but where did we get him???? Garth's idea of complimenting a player who broke Gretzky's Junior records was to put a longshot free agent and a waiver pick up on his wings. Brilliant. Really, visionary thinking and SO ahead of the curve, no other GM would have thought to do it the same. - jmo16
Since you are throwing around absolutes & love to mention Crosby and the Pens... They picked Andy Hilbert off waivers to play with Crosby in Sid's first year.
If Andy had clicked with Sid the way Matt did with JT... what do you think would have happened?

SO im really bored and decided to look at the salary cap room that islanders have.
Cap floor = 44 million
Team Cap as of today = 32,324,833
Money to spend to hit floor = 11,675,167
Adding in Brock Nelson and Nino: 6,055,167 left to spend
Signing Hamonic: Would like to know what ppl think this contract will be. I know hes an RFA...so will his cap hit still remain kind of low? not sure how those work... 3 mill a year? If around 3 million...3,055,167 left to spend
Signing Bailey...assuming around 1.5 mil a year? 1,555,167
That leaves Garth with 1,555,167 to spend without a goalie signed...unless Wang decides to go over the cap floor, I highly doubt we see anyone signed...
edit: this is also without adding Donovan and Hickey onto the cap.... (if Hickey is resigned) |

So it's PRETTY safe to assume that we won't be doing anything AGAIN this summer? And here i thought we would want to make some noise BEFORE we go to Brooklyn. Unless Garth surprises us, expect more of the same. No winger for JT, no top pairing d-man, and no goalie brought in.

It would be nice to get a legit top six guy and a goalie(more so)but I wasn't expecting it. We have tosee how these kids perform and if Bailey and okposo can stay consistent we may not need much? A tough top four dman is what this team needs desperately needsbut we are going to need some spots to see what these kids have. Hoping two of the three are ready. Maybe a little unrealistic but I'm looking fwd to seeing them. |

If i have to pick just ONE position to upgrade this summer, it would HAVE TO be top pairing, physical, dman. The goalie sitch will probably result in Nabby for one more year. They're going to need to spend to improve that position soon though. A top line winger for JT COULD be developed, but why waste years of JT's greatness on waiting when you can acquire SOMEbody with the salary cap crunch coming? |

Agreed. Strome or any ther prospect can be that fit for JT but it took a couple of years for JT to emerge into a full superstar. It would be nice to get a big RW for JT now do they can develop one, but have someone for now. That can possibly create 2 lines that will be extremely good. I am confident that Nabby will be back next year. Like you said I would really like to see a top D man brought in. They have so much cap space, it would be nice for once to trade or somehow get a star. What do you guys think about Bernier for goalie? |

Too much speculation...I think Garth brings in 2 or 3 new guys...goalie, defenseman and forward...also they only have 15 players on the roster...if my memory is correct all teams need to have signed 23 players and at least $44 million in payroll. the Islanders have 15 signed and that inclides Lee and Finley...the number of players on the roster is key...so don't be suprised if Garth is waiting to see who is bought out...also don't be suprised if he can't sign Nabokov if he tries to trade the 4th rd pick he got from Philly for a goalie like Mike Smith of Phoenix or a defenseman before they hit UFA... |

Goalie is a definite since as of now we have none. It will probably be Nabby again. ON defense he may sign a 5-6 guy, and I doubt he goes after another forward. |

well just for that reason. Look at Boyes. He sucks and still put up respectable numbers. Look at Moulson, same thing. If one of these kids has chemistry with him it could be something you don't have to wait long for. I'd say there is a decent chance you could see Strome, Nino, or Nelson on his wing? Whomever it is how can it not be an upgrade over Boyes? |
