If that's true, it seems kinda funny that the top 6 forwards get paid an awful lot more money than the bottom 6 forwards.
An awful lot. - Atomic Wedgie
Well yeah, but you know what i mean. They get the goals right so come contract time, boom here's my figures. Bottom 6 are harder to substantiate (Sp?).
Look at the bottom 6 of the Kings,Bruins,Hawks,Blues and such.
Then compare them to Canucks etc. Hugely different.
THe biggest improvement with the Leafs this year (which resulted in a playoff spot was having an actual bottom 6 that knew what they were doing.
Komorov, McClement, Kulimen, Frattin are a lot more effective than
Connnolollonoly, Crabb, Brent and Brown (although i like Brown)

Agreed, but bottom six guys are a lot easier to replace and/or upgrade than top six guys.
It just kills me about Leafs fans - we went into the playoffs as the sixth seed and got bounced out in the first round.
But apparently this team is so perfect, we can't possibly lose any of the guys from last year, including a fourth liner?
We didn't win the cup.
We didn't win a round in the playoffs.
We need changes.
I liked Komarov. I'd offer Komarov a new contract.
But if we lose him, I am being sincere when I write that it won't bother me in the least. We can replace him with a million other guys.
IMO, huge loss for the Leafs. Loved the way that Leo Komarov played this year and I think they are going to have a lot of trouble replacing the guy. - IanEsplen

Another way of looking at things:
A bunch of things improved for the Leafs last year. I would count improved back checking and bette PK among those things. Maybe it was almost all Carlyle and the goalies but Komorov contributed to both.
On balance, I would rather have him than not. While I agree that he can be easily replaced, I'm not sure that it will necessarily be with someone as good as or better than what e did.

We can replace him with Freddie Sjostrom. Great skater, tenacious forechecker and an elite penalty killer

It could be one of the most significant losses ever of a 4th-liner who played 49 total games for the team, collecting 9 points.
I don't know about you, Mr. Esplen, but the haunting tones of the pipe at the beginning of Celine Dion's timeless ballad My Heart Will Go On are playing through my head right now.
I just hope I can be as brave as Rose from the movie.

I have "Afternoon Delight" playing in my head right now.
