if I am tampa I dont do that deal, unless SY has been told to shed salary.
It would have to include at least the leafs 1st and a prospect, like Colborne in addition. Also why would they want Gabo at 5.5?

- senstroll

Maybe they think they're close? haha. who knows? this whole thing doesn't make any sense!

I don't think you can compliance buyout/amnesty a player who hasn't played 30 games on your roster... also, the amnesty window ends when Free Agency begins on the 5th. Meaning Vinny is stuck on the Leafs for at least one full season!
- steve362

Mackenzie talked about depieto going to van for Lou and then bought out. So I'm not sure. The only place I've seen the "you can't buyout guys that didn't play x games" is here with no evidence.

Also if we move grabo and add vinny we still have plenty of cap space. If we have to wait its no issue.

I agree! Will do some research to see the qualifications for buyout. My issue is that I don't see why Tampa would want to make this deal?

Yzerman can't possibly be that stupid

Robin, when it comes to cash, logical trades go out the window. We're always viewing trades from a fantasy pool perspective, I agree the above deal makes no sense, but how many times in the past 4 years have we seen deals where posters on here are scratching their heads wondering if the gm making the deal is an idiot.

Shorter term and about 20M less to buyout.

$30,000,000 spread over 14 years for Vinny....
$14,333,333 spread over 8 years for Grabo....

And I probably screwed that up too. lol

Has anyone confirmed there is a rule about playing a set number of games after a trade and before a buy out?

Not that I've seen. Only hearsay from here. Never seen a shred of evidence.

Mackenzie was hinting at van buying out RD after deal for Lou, so he doesn't seem to think there is sure a thing

Not sure that it makes a lot of sense for TB to give up Lecavalier and the 3rd overall pick. Especially if they get a guy like grabovski and some (lesser) picks.

Considering the stink that bettman is throwing about Glendale being $6M short in their deal.....yeah, $20M is a big deal.

Yeah, didn't mean it in the way I see it came across. I just mean, go there and post the same thing. It likely won't happen anyways.

Well I would take Mckinnon..but he is 100% gone top 2

Center over a winger...I would be happy getting Monahan 5-7th for the same package

Just not as big as most on Barkov. I have no respect whatsoever for the Finnish league or Swiss league. Now a 17/18 year old rocking in the SEL, thats big news to me.

It makes very little sense. Especially considering that Lecavalier is still a productive player. they need help on defense, badly.

Honest question:

If we were to get Vinny and buy him out, we wouldn't be able to sign him right after, correct?

You can't sign a guy at a cheaper price who you've just bought out?

I think their d is coming along--(mark barberio and gudas should be NHLers)--and maybe their goaltending will get better to.o They also got another Cory Conacher type in Tyler Johnson, plus a lot of young forwards Killorn/Connolly for example.

If they can get out of vinny's contract (who is probably more a 4M million player), they can use that money to improve the d.

I'm thinking Malone and Brewer are better candidates for a buyout.

I can see the leafs taking on a guy like lecav who has a bad contract over the talks we discussed of briere and brad richards. Lecav is a big body centerman with a bad contract that is something we could "use". Despite is long term contract and high paid salary, it is something we could put to use and get something "decent" for taking him and his salary. He is one of the highest paid guys with a bad contract but still a half decent player. I would take the gamble on lecav definitely, especially over guys like brad richards or briere

I agree as well on Malone, but there seems to always be a market for trade for a guy of his ilk. I.e. Ryane Clowe. I think they're quite fond of Brewer.
