Who is goalie #1 is Bryz is bought out? If your answer is Mason, do you really think his sample size showed that he can be a #1 for a team that plays a poor team-defense style?

I'd really love that personally.

A good puck moving goaltender who has shown he can handle the media BS of a tough market with class and a guy that could be a mentor for Mason for a few seasons.

All in for Luongo (if he is bought out).

IMO that's a secondary problem to the fact your paying a player $5.67 million a year for eternity to be average at best. There are plenty of decent options that won't require long years or huge dollars to see if Mason is "the guy". Fact is he's just not worth the money and the BS.

One thing I love about Gillick is if you didn't cut it he cut you i.e. Jenkins, Eaton.

I agree. separate the fact from the perception and you have yourself a fantastic goalie in Lu

Carolina has 17 players signed at 58 million

Tampa has 18 players signed at 63.6 million

Everyone around the league likes to bone the flyers for cap mismanagement but the reality is these teams are in worse trouble

Tampa Cap payroll is $61.895 million. They have like $2,4 million.

But the price
I'd rather sign a true veteran mentor like Nabokov to a shorter, less-money deal. Then we'd have 2 goalies that won't let up too many soft ones and will put up solid numbers. No superstar (Yet), but enough so that we aren't losing games regularly due to poor goaltending, and maybe we'll even win a few due to good goaltending.

Barring that I'm late, here is an excerpt that hopefully hints towards him not being another runaway FA from the NHL.com article on the trade.

"Obviously I'm excited to get traded to Philadelphia," Streit, 35, told the Flyers website. "… Philly has an unbelievable team. It's a great franchise and a great city and it's a hockey town for sure. The fans there are great, and that's why I always liked playing in Philly. The team is really good. It's well-structured. It's young and fast and it would be a great honor to play for the Flyers."

Although the Islanders and Streit failed to reach a deal, he doesn't seem too interested in testing the free-agent market.

"I think that maybe

- NHL.com[the Flyers] need a few days or weeks, but I'm pretty positive," Streit said of contract talks with Philadelphia. "The future is bright. They were in the Cup Finals three years ago and there is so much skill and a great mix between veteran players and young players, so I'm pretty confident and I truly hope it's going to get done soon."

Streit could reunite with former defensive partner Bruno Gervais and would be joining a team he feels has the potential to win it all, the ultimate draw for any player.

"It's no question to me. I believe the Flyers will be in the playoffs next year," Streit said. "They have the skill and the physical part of it. It's a great group and I'd love to join that team."

Let me know if this has already been posted, but I think it's a positive sign and not just generic press response to the trade.
