What Jasq said pretty much except that this is the first time there appears to be an NHL off season strategy that could see the Coyotes moved. I think it's this ownership group or it's over. They obviously have a viable option B.

Quebec or Seattle? My guess to keep the 14 teams in the west Seattle would be in the lead, no?

Id want $5.5+ to play for the Islanders too?
- Trainfellow

Why? They were better than the flyers last year...

Edmonton would laugh pretty hard at that...Would you trade a 7th overall pick in this years draft for Schenn? I would be shocked if the Oilers did that as I mentioned earlier it took an 8th overall pick, Jake for Carter. Oilers are looking for immediate help, someone that can get them into the playoffs Schenn isnt that guy.
- flyerfan28

I'm pretty sure you're right. I worked away from the Oilers bloggers proposition. The trade for #7+ for Schenn was his proposal. The rest was my mind working through the possibilities if that was to happen.

I'll leave the 7+ for Schenn at his doorstep.

How could they move them east and run into the same situation they're correcting this season?

It's the NHL, that's how... hello Nordiques?

I don't know if this has been posted or checked out but just in case it hasn't or someone hasn't seen it. Interview with Steit after the trade. It looks pretty good, at least he is saying all the right things and seems to be happy to be in the mix. I don't know how that's going to translate to his eventual cap hit but it's good to know he recognizes the Flyers as a good organization.

If I could trade 11 & Meszaros to get the 7th pick, I'd do it faster than Rick James does a line of blow.

Not only do you get a better pick, you clear $4mm in cap room.

- Jsaquella

And lose the very type of Young 2-way Puck mover you need for your team. There is not that much drop off in talent from the 7th to 11th.

Who am I losing? Meszaros is in the last year of his contract and has had three shoulder injuries in the past year and a half. I have zero faith that Meszaros can ever return and be much more than Carlo Coliacovo at this point-an injury waiting to happen

OK, here's my take on Streit:

Cons:

-(frank)ing hate trading assets for rights. Hate it like ass flavored ice cream.

-Obviously the over 35 situation makes me leery. The Flyers seem to be the kid who needs third degree burns to stop toughing the damned stove.

-Streit isn't exactly a great two way defenseman.

Pros:

-Streit is an exceptional puck mover, and still has good wheels at age 35.

-He does fill a major need at a rather insignificant cost(asset wise)

-in regards to likely cap hit, ANYBODY they traded for was likely to have a fairly large cap hit, unless it was a reclamation project such as Jamie McBain or similar young defenseman.

-PP. Streit is an exceptional PP quarterback.

I can see Streit slotted into a second pair role, playing with Coburn and it looks solid on paper.

- Jsaquella

idk if i would call an ECHL player who wont be anything more than a 4th liner in the NHL, likely career AHL'er, and a 4th round pick in the 2014 draft which is the latter part of the draft... wouldn't call those "assets"
other than that i 100% agree.

Best of luck to Streit. Some of the Isles' fans comments here were dead on though...if he signs, the Flyers should use him sparingly for actual defense. Not really sure what happened...when he first got to the team, he was far better than advertised defensively...in fact, he was pretty darn good. He made Gervais look like a competent defenseman when they were paired together. Last season and this season though...man, that part of his game really went south. He still has a nice shot, and, most importantly...in fact the best part of his game imo...a damn good first pass out of the zone. He also has a good and deceptive "slap pass" on the power play he used to set Tavares up quite often. My two cents, anyway. Good Islander...he was there for some horrible times and was a good teammate and soldier throughout.

Bettman said he's worried about the Glendale arena. They may have to board it up. Also the PHX Cardinals might fold.

well we seemed to have turned around Steve Mason, who was one of the "worst" goalies in the NHL. Who knows maybe Streit will play harder for us *shrug*

The one thing we have is good, stay at home guys to play with him and mitigate the defensive shortcomings.

Possibly. Heck, Habs fans said virtually the same thing to us when we got him, and they seemed crazy after his first season on the Island, so, he's done it before.

he gave up an ECHL player and a 4th round pick
WTF is wrong with that???

jeepers i dont get some of you... do you guys want to improve or not??

Shane (frank)ing Harper i can almost guarantee you was never gonna play an NHL game in his (frank)ing life for us

and a 4th round pick. how many 4th round picks amount to something in the past 2 decades? 2-3 players maybe?

Jesus i swear if he had traded Danny or Bryz Flyers fans would complain they didnt get enough in return

It's a 4th. Maybe he won't sign. Maybe we'll pick up another third in a different deal. Hang in there. Ain't over until you die.

At least in this case there were going to be plenty of other teams who would have made offers on Streit.

Well, I can't possibly disagree with Dan Aykroyd

If you haven't seen him talk about his legitimate belief in UFOs on Netflix, I recommend it.
