3y-15m is my guess. He a UFA, he will comand it
- KATG

Gonchar got 2 years at 10 mil for a frame of reference.

I think Streit gets slightly north of both of those numbers.

This was a bad move for the Flyers. Getting Streit's rights early provides zero additional leverage at the negotiating table. He can now tell them, "Ok, if you don't like my terms I'll walk, sorry about your draft pick." This doesn't avoid the premium that comes from the UFA market, just ask Ilya Bryzgalov.

It isn't an utter disaster, but it is a stupid move.

Keep in mind a Streit contract will be an over 35 one. He turns 36 in Dec.
I'll let the more informed review his stats and give their opionion. I haven't seen him play a ton but his numbers don't bowl me over...
And yeah the question is always gonna be for how much and how long.

Id be shocked if they signed him. he's going to make more than we can afford on the open market. Prob just burned a 4th for no reason.
- Hextall271

In all the time Philly has been trading for Players rights, how many players have turned down the Flyers because they did not offer enough Money? Hamhuis did not want to be a 5th defensemen, Parise & Suter signed for about as much as Philly was offering, Weber was matched... the only one I can think of was Nabokov who was unrealistic and ended up in the KHL. If Homer traded for him, its means he's willing to pay him full Market value.

I understand about the pick, but no one is complaining about Shane Harper, right? He spent as much time in the ECHL last season as the AHL -- just getting his contract of the 50-man limit was worth the fourth-round pick alone!
- AllInForFlyers

I'm more disappointed that the pick isn't conditional on him signing. I just mentioned Harper because he was part of the deal. Of course he'll score 40 goals in 2015 playing with Tavares and Moulson.

He can play 20+ minutes per game in every situation, and is a PP stud.
He was Captain, just like Timonen.

The contract will be same as Gonchar's 2yr/10mill

- MrBigglesworth

Well, he is the puck mover type of guy that we need. At the right cost and term he can help... Maybe Homer thinks we can get by for a couple years with this D. We certainly don't need PP help as much as a two way guy.

If anyone was wondering if they were gonna keep Bryz for an extra year, I think we all have our answer now.

An enterprising moving company will put their business card in the Bryzgalov mail box in South Jersey this afternoon.

Streit is 4 years younger, but he still comes in second to a 39 year old Gonchar. I think Streit's value is going to be about the same.

Well, I don't think we can afford to spend as much as we are looking at for the two tenders. Maybe a buyout and sign a solid backup?

Personally I don't think this is the death knell for Bryz. It is for Briere, but we all knew that. I think Homer has some different balls in play and depending upon where those land will determine if Bryz goes or not.

Ha! And really, no one should be surprised -- they couldn't risk Bryzgalov getting hurt next season and then not being able to buy him out.

We can all debate performance and unfairness, but the CBA that players and owners ratified meant that there was more chance of me skating a shift with Claude Giroux at 45 years old than there was of Bryzgalov being on the team next year: Possible? Yeah, anything's possible, but HIGHLY unlikely.

Like I said before, i haven't crunched the numbers so I don't know if we can get rid of Briere, keep Bryz sign Streit and maybe add a winger or not.

I hope I am not the only one releived that is the case. I suspect we'll hang on to Schenn too. Fine with me as Bill says, no need shifting gears again.. plug in stop gaps like this that only cost money the org has, then let the young guys develop.

I think we can say 2 things definitively. Homer isn't done yet, and there will definately be players exiting stage right to keep them under the cap hit...
Should be an interesting time. I look forward to watching it with you guys.

Agreed. With Pronger on LTIR the Flyers had room to Sign Gags, Gus and the rest of their RFA's and still keep Briere & Bryz for next year. Now it's obvious something is going to give.

I'm pretty sure Hamhuis wanted to go home to British Columbia and being the "#5 d-man" on paper had nothing to do with it. Before the Flyers got him that was the word going around. Then we shipped his rights to the Pens when we couldn't sign him and then shockingly, he went home to British Columbia.

Coburn is staying. Meszaros on his way out.
Love him or hate him, Homer is certainly one of the most proactive GMs
Maybe we can do a Meszaros for Hamonic, straight up trade !

Streit's agent, Pat Brisson will begin negotiations with Paul Holmgren today. A 4 year deal is the target.

I just threw up in my mouth...
