Yea but even if it were between Streit/Timonen, Streit is the more mobile guy with the harder shot. I expect him to be on the top unit
- Just5

Is Streit more mobile? I keep hearing from Isles and others that he's actually kinda slow, just with good hands.

Solid article Bill.

Hopefully the streit deal will keep Coots and Schenn in orange and black.

Ideally they still grab a young offensively talented D man this year and let him develop the next few years and eventually replace Streit.

Its all relative. He's more mobile than Kimmo at this point for sure. Isle fans are also watching Visnovsky whose quicker than him probably. Hamonic who I love and Mcdonald are 2 young solid two way defensemen with good wheels and puck moving ability.

Hartnell could be moved. Mez could be dumped. etc. Still lots of options.
- hereticpride

Hartnell has a NTC and who the hell is taking broken Mez? There are other options, but it is easier to buy out those two to create room to do more.

They don't need to buyout both to sign Streit.
- MJL

no but if they want to do more, they need extra $.

He's missed 57 games the last two seasons, is in the last year of his contract, and missed time twice with shoulder injuries last season. I have no faith he can rebound, and honestly wouldn't be amazed if he's a salary dump trade at the draft
- Jsaquella

I doubt that's going to happen. The organization thinks pretty highly of him and what he can do. He may get moved, but I think it'll be for a lot more than people are pitching him for on here.

Is there someone you want at #7 who's going to be far and away better than whoever's left at #11?

Nope. I want to clear out a guy who costs $4mm who I don't think will play more than 50 games or so.

Like him as much as they want, they don;t seem to be counting too heavily on him playing a huge role or them next season.

Get what we can for him and move on. He's in the way of Gus anyway.

I'll wait to see what Streits contract looks like before I evaluate this move (if he signs).

I'm with you. I'm hoping Meszaros can recover and have a healthy Season. He is an effective player that can make the Flyers better. I have doubts about his health, but if he can stay in the lineup, the Flyers are better. I don't know that he has a ton of value, but I think he could be moved if need be. With only one year left on his deal. Low risk there.

Better not be more than 3 years. I bet the cap hit is closer to 6 million, than 5.

I'd rather the negativity of the pending 3-4 year, 5-6mil per contract for Streit, than the near rioting we'd have in here if we dealt Couturier for Fatso.

I doubt the Flyers would trade Couturier for Brodeur.

Exactly man. Regardless of the contract, Its Streit for Briere and he prob will be signed for a mil less on the cap. What an albatross Briere has become.

Yea that's definitely a relief. All the Byfuglien rumors. I wanted no parts of him. I don't care if they gave him to the Flyers just for Shane Harper alone.

Hamhuis wanted to play near his home in BC....Streit's Swiss...unless that is where the Coyotes are moving
- Jsaquella

I think he could help on the PP. I'm just a fan if its 3-4 years at $5M per.

Streit is very good on the PP, and can move the puck. Flyers are lacking in both areas. The fact it's another aging guy commanding a big contract is what I don't like.

Steit is a liability in his own end as well. Strictly an offensive defenseman.

They need the help 5 on 5. I think he will help. He is an exceptional puck mover.
