Boy that's not exactly a list that jumps out at you. I realize MG has to work with what's available but compared to something like:
1. Mike Babcock
2. Paul Maclean
etc
it's tough to raise my hopes on any of those 4 candidates. As Bloated Mosquito said yesterday, why do I get the feeling we'll all be disappointed? - AlexF
I guess we all have our own ideas of what would be disappointing... When you cite Paul MacLean, was he on your radar before he got the job in Ottawa? |

No, I didn't see that coming. But he did serve under Babcock both in Anaheim and Detroit so if there's anyone available now with that sort of pedigree I'm all ears. I suppose my point is that I would love a coach to come in and make the changes required to get us over the hump. The odds of that happening successfully decrease the further you get from the known quantities such as I listed.
It's a risk in the end - it could pay handsomely or it could backfire to bring in a lesser known. Time will tell. |

#Isles announce they have traded veteran defenseman (and captain) Mark Streit to PHI for 4th round pick in 2014 and Shane Harper
Well, that might put an end to the Edler for Couturier talk. |

True. It is kinda sad how everyone in Canada cheered against the Canucks vs Boston. It's because of the way they dive and employ players like Burrows. Not easy to see why you are hated. You can hate Ovie all you want lol He's better than anyone in the history the canucks have got. Enough said. - Smurfs-A-Joke
How is that sad? I sure as hell wouldn't cheer for them just because they're also Canadian teams.
This diving smack talk is getting old. Especially when it comes to Burrows. 29 other teams would love to have him (well, maybe not the Blackhawks... 28 then) and he stopped "embellishing" calls years ago. Maybe start picking on his accent or his hair or something. |

Doubt it. Mark Streit is more of a complimentary player to Edler, rather than a replacement. Edler's still the type of player the Flyers need. Also, Streit is 35 and Timonen is 38. If the Flyers were interested in acquiring Edler, they still are. That would be a great PP unit with Streit and Edler on the points. |

so Streit is worth a 4th and a prospect.
What can we get for Roy and Raymond?
I'd say 3rd for Roy and 5th for Raymond |

No. Just no. There's like 15 pending 3rd line UFA forwards out there. Only team I can see doing something like that is Calgary.
Roy could get a conditional pick, a 4th would be nice. The reason Streit got that is because so many teams are desperate for blueline help and he's actually produced very good numbers in recent seasons. |

Unfortunately I haven't heard anything out of Vancouver indicating that Gillis has any interest. Not that I'm qualified to make any decisions, but my feeling (at this point) is that the Canucks need a motivator and someone willing to work with young players. Boucher is exactly that. - Michael_Stuart
I wouldn't mind him, IMO coaches are usually better during their second shot at a head coaching job in the NHL, just like with every other profession. |

Disagree. They're likely interested in Edler but not at the cost of a Schenn or Couturier. Streit helps them fill a need at the backend with leadership and solid puck-moving skills. This also more than likely means a buyout(s) is coming (Bryz, Briere) so they'll probably look to a new goalie to shore up the D even further. Though not impossible, this move makes an Edler trade less likely. |

Kind of like Torts, the biggest concern I have with Tippett is will he try to coach the Canucks as he did in PHX or DAL? If the later, he could be great. If the former, I'll get the best sleep of my life for the years he is here. - AlexF
I think he's smart enough to coach and work with what he has. He's done very well historically with what he's had to work with IMO. I'm not 100% sure if he'd be number one target(came up with that order in like 2 minutes). I prefer coaches who have only coahes once in the NHL before so far, I think second-time coaches have the best ability/potential to improve and do a better job with their second crack at it after learning from their mistakes the first time around. |

Agreed on Raymond. I think a 4th would be rich for Roy but I could see us getting a pick out of it. |

I remember waiting after a game for autographs at the gate where the players drive out during Ley's first year as coach—they were all driving luxury and sports cars, and Ley drove out in a yellow 1982 Honda Civic. Even then I found it funny as poop for some reason...
BTW, nice recommendation on the beer. Picked up some of that Whistler Brewing Company grapefruit ale (think that's the brand you mentioned). Great stuff - Fosco
Plenty more where that came from, next try a tasty Spanish lager called Alhambra Reserva 1925, comes in a dark green bottle, drank a lot of that while living in Calgary, of all places! |
