cause of all the basis in reality most proposals in here have?

He's too valuable to the Leafs to give away for a pick. Komarov is going back to KHL.

Removing Kulemin also means they've lost 2 of their top 4 PK forwards. Bozak being a 3rd.

Plus he can play anywhere in the lineup. Can't trade a player like that for a 2nd round pick and leave hole in the lineup.

Just doesn't make sense.

- Big_Lightnin

With the main PK plan "Send Bozak out to win the draw and have him scamper off for Kulemin immediately," yes that might be a slight issue...BOYD GORDON

Will we keep him after next year? What do you think he will get on the free agent market?
- jribout

worry about that when the time comes. Right now they need him next season more than they need an earlyish 2nd round pick.

Forgive me for assuming at least one person who isn't jazzed about Kulemin knew what he was talking about.

I wasn't trying to troll or be a jerk. Just shooting something out there to get an idea about his situation in Toronto. Guess I was misinformed.

no, but not giving away the best defensive winger on the team for a 2nd round pick either. That's a terrible trade for the Leafs at this time.

Fair enough.

the draft isn't smaller

They won't likely get a player as good as him with that pick, and the team will be far worse for the trade.

Hence, not even close.

- Big_Lightnin

Okay sorry for giving you too much credit.....

The draft is much deeper so it goes something like this......
picks 1-5 are like and average drafts 1-3
6-9 would normally be top 5's
10-20 are like top 10's
20-30 are like top 20's
early 2nd round are like 20-30.

As for your logic with Kulemin it is quite sound...but depends on where he fits in the future and what FA's we get.

oh ya I know. Me either. My sarcastic comment was more for those proposing the trades

Leafers are split on Kulemin. The ones who understood Rinks are 200 ft long love Kulemin. The ones who don't think he's a plug.

Kulemin is on the ice for the last minute of every period, and every important D-zone possession. Carlyle trusts him in any situation.

There's a lot to like about him. Personally I think he's the kind of guy that laces up for a cup roster. Getting him, Bozak, Frattin re-upped for good prices could go a long way to having a core that peaks all at the right time.

If not, I'd kill to see him in Oiler silks next FA.

Yeah he may have been our best, but that doesn't mean he was that good. I always thought that was his strength...but 52% is pretty average.

Frattin's got another year on his ELC - looking forward to seeing how he progresses next year.

Bozak, if the price is right, they should keep, but $3.75M is the highest I want to see him making.

There isn't a lot of sense in having Bozak, Grabo, and Kadri all on the team. 3 not so big players who are all essentially good 2C's (Grabo I give a pass this year - 1st bad year he's had)

Kuli may very well walk as UFA. He's been looking for $4M his last 2 contracts, but was negotiated down due to no leverage, and he had no intention of KHL, and he likes Toronto.

But if they move Grabo, they won't low-ball him again. He'll want $4M per as a UFA, and he'll get it.

3 yrs $2.5M per?

Way too much or not gonna do it?

He's exactly what the Leafs need in bottom 6...

And Clarkson in the top 6

thanks.

Still, sometimes it's hard to tell who speaks for the educated majority of a fan base and who doesn't. those who thought Macarthur > Kulemin always boggled my mind.

If Colborne continues to develop or you get that solid top 6 centre, do you think Kadri slides to the wing? I feel like he made some dynamic plays this year screaming down the boards and then cutting accross the middle.

nah you want him as center I think. He's gotten more responsible so the D side isn't an issue, but he needs the freedom to play the whole ice offensively.

He'll get out of position too much coming off the wing IMO, and also be a bit easier to contain.
