In new CBA with the ability to retain cap hit in trade are we able to buy out the portion of a players cap we retained.

Say we trade grabo but retain 1/2 his cap hit to increase his value would we be able to buy out the portion of his contract we owe him?

But I can't see them buyout out/trading Grabo there really just isn't any other options out there to replace him.

Then I'd acquire someone else problem (remove the restraining order on Gillis' cell phone from the trade deadline) and offer him Gunnarson in a straight exchange for Edler, Garrison or Bieksa. (Yes Canuck fans, you will end up having to do just such deals, unless you're planning on playing half your AHL roster.)
