There's a lot to like about him. Personally I think he's the kind of guy that laces up for a cup roster. Getting him, Bozak, Frattin re-upped for good prices could go a long way to having a core that peaks all at the right time.

If not, I'd kill to see him in Oiler silks next FA.

It's the NHL - anybody can win once the playoffs start...most teams are contenders....look what the habs did the year with Halak...it was coaching/some luck/some good play/some good goaltending..they were contenders even if they looked like poop on paper.

The only way the Leafs wind up with a first rounder in the top 7 is if the trade involved Kessel. He;s the only Leaf with any true serious value to fetch a high pick. But Kessel aint going anywhere. So that puts to rest that notion of the Leafs getting into the top 7.

Not sure why you think that 7th pick has so much value....that is just not true.
I am not saying it doesn't have value, just not something you even bring Kessel into the conversation over - unless it's their 7th + one of their blue chips.

Gardiner (maybe plus something small) for 7th would be more reasonable....That said, I wouldn't even make that trade. Most likely Mackinnon, Druin, Jones, Barkov, Nurse are all off the board and I wouldn't trade Gardiner for Monahan....

Take a look at the LA Kings for about the last 10 or 12 years...I'm pretty sure they didn't finish ahead of the Leafs too many times....Leafs didnt make the playoffs lots but finishing 9th or 10th is what really killed them. Top picks should go to the teams that try and make the playoffs but fail...unlike teams like Pitts / Edm gunning for the basement to try and improve their team...kinda seems stupid to reward team that are trying to lose.

I like a pest that chirps up a storm and can take a punch in the mouth 3 or 4 times a game...Komarov is all of that I guess...but he talks way to many languages and doesnt have that look...like Marchand...you could meet him in a diner and hate the (frank)er!!!!
