Give Horton 5 million x 5 years
Use the 7th OA as trade bait to acquire Couturier

- Reveen

Does the 7th alone get you Couts??? what do we add?

I don't know about Bozak's shot. Seems like he always missed Phil's passes. Phil is a great passer and started getting his asisst total increase when they put him with another good winger like Lupul or JVR.
- mmold

A guy who misses Phil's passes isn't the same as being a guy a who can't shoot the puck. And if he missed all of Phil's passes he wouldn't have such a high shooting percentage. Look on you tube for his goals, you'll see that Bozak scores many goals off his own rushes or is in the right place. Again, I believe Bozak is actually a better all round player away from Phil. Phil needs a playmaking centre, not a Bozak.

certainly a reasonable start

I think he'll get that from everywhere. ie; more desirable destinations.
edm prob has to throw 5.5+ to get him to consider.
gotta think he's a tough one. cause not only he is gonna be chased, but he's having a great playoffs and is now accustomed to a winner too.
all just conjecture though. who knows, maybe the idea of playing with nuge and ebs intrigues him.

as far as couts, a 7th to start. but im sure theyd want more.

I dunno, if someone was foolish enough to spend a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd on him I guess, but losing him would be disastrous for next season. Realistically that means we need to find four NHL centres in two months.

ive been a big brent burns fan for quite some time.

id actually rather him back on defence in our situation, but certainly valuable that he's adept at playing either spot

- hugefemale dog77

I would prefer him on our D too. I'm a big fan of what he brings to the game.

LOL. Not that Scrivens is great, but good enough to be a backup. Why would the Leafs trade him off for Omark?

it really doesn't make sense straight up.
they're building a young core and he's getting better. he seems like he's the ideal 2/3 center that's strong both ways and can play in all situations. ie;jordan staal type.
why move back 2 years in development unless they're super pumped on a certain kid in this years draft?

seems like usually these deals happen if said kid stalls abit in his development and could use a fresh start. and/or lost favour with the organization

My thoughts exactly.

And Jordan Staal is a great comparison. Never really thought of that one before.

I think they covet Nurse more than anyone else and would do that deal. They're still very good a center without him.

yeah, I know you were just responding. That's guy is a troll though.

Omark has to be close to being a total UFA soon, no? He's 26 and playing in the Swiss league.

I don't know- but he played on a team with former Leaf great, Andy Wozniewski.

Wait till Skalapy hears about this!

We'd have an easier time getting Hartnell who could make a lot of good impact for a cheaper price than Couts.

Chucked around all the time, but I also like the idea of trying Bogosian in a new environment. He plays a simple game and succeeds generally at being a credible puck-moving threat from the back end.

yeah, the comparison really struck me the few times ive seen him.
got size and fantastic in his own zone and on the pk. and a decent enough skater with some skills to contribute offensively as well.

im sure he'd even be fine for stretches on the first line in a pinch. just like staal was in pitts.

People have a tendency to think the Oilers are such a bad organization that they're wasting and misusing gems like Omark and Shremp, when in actual fact those guys are talented but rarely motivated non-NHLers. To a certain extent, Tambs got Lombardi to buy into a Penner that doesn't really exist more than a handful of games a year. In general though, I think the Oilers being an 'bumpkin organization that wastes talent' is a perception that exists only on the internet.

However, if GMs actually think like that, I really think MacT - especially as a first time GM - can play up the village idiot routine in pawning off guys like Omark and maybe even Belanger. "We never got a handle on how to use him, we didn't think Linus was good enough on the backcheck to earn a shootout spot", the sort of stuff that makes it look like the Oilers as an organization are fools. Then take whatever we can get for these truly putrid players and run.
