The Nashville Predators signed defenceman Roman Josi to a seven-year, $28 million contract Monday, securing the other piece of their top defensive line.

Monahan is the guy I think will fall. Older player, didn't distance himself like many thought he would, PP was his saving grace until Ceci was traded and then things got difficult for him.
- AdamFrench

Let Feaster know Lindholm is the right pick then. Although, knowing that franchise he'll probably pick a guy like Hagg and claim he'll be the best player to come out of the draft.

Side note: I had a dream that Nonis traded up to 8 and used it to pick Morin, it was really deflating.

Ditto...

I wish you'd blog for the Senators every once and a while, not slagging our regular blogger but your content and style make for a nice change of speed.

If the Canucks have a need it's skill at the forward position, regarding prospects, specially at the LW position. I'm not sure what's going to happen with their pick, if it's in play or not, I don't suspect it is. But I'm sure they'll stick with the BPA.

Good write-up Mr. French.

I'm not joking. I enjoy a different angle on things every once and a while.

Hence reading Senschirp (notably less Sabremetric) and other Senators-related blogs... And you, whenever you do your Senators draft blog

EDIT: Dammit, has my sarcastic reputation finally come back to bite me in the ass?

(he asked rhetorically)

Good write up Adam.

I have been doing some reading up on the prospects in this years draft and McCarron was the first player who stood out for me that the canucks are looking for at forward but if any of these 2 defensemen are available we HAVE to take one of them:

Micro Mueller or
Robert Hagg

Both these players are good to be top 4 dmen and are both close to NHL ready now. I have a feeling one of them will be available when Vancouver picks at 24.

What is you opinion on Mueller and Hagg?

The Canucks need to draft a goalie. If you ask our blogger. Don't ask her, she sucks.

Here is my take on Hagg

Robert Hägg : I want to start off by saying Hägg at 15 is a slight stretch unless a team really loves him (more likely around 20-30), but I haven’t talked about him yet and I don’t want to just retread guys I’ve already done. Hägg is a very interesting player and had an interesting year. With the injuries to Brodin, Klefbom and Lindholm; Hägg was able to take advantage of their misfortune and make the Swedish U20 WJC’s and have a very solid showing adding a goal and an assist. He’s primarily an offensive defenseman with high-end skating ability and what many describe as “elite puck moving skills.” He captained the Modo U20 squad in the SuperElit and dominated being named the Best Defenseman of the Year (2011’s winner was 6 overall Hampus Lindholm) and finishing with 11 goals and 24 points in 28 games while splitting time up on the big club in the Elitserien. At 6’2 he has good size to go along with that top-end skating and he has above-average defensive awareness. His major strengths are going forward on the attack, but many scouts still think that defensively he is reliable and solid. He’s shown some physicality and that he has a good mind for the game. I’d also like to add that he was the best defender for Sweden in the U18’s and he was a leader for a team with a lot of 2014 eligible players. There have been a lot of Swedish defenseman that were slated to go in the 20’s and 10-15 range that are picked earlier on and go on to be steals; Oliver Ekman-Larsson was generally in the 15 range but went 6th, Hampus Lindholm was in the 20’s and went 6th and he had an excellent AHL season for an 18 year old, Jonas Brodin was in the 20’s and went 11th and looked like the real Calder winner playing as a top-pairing guy at 19…so maybe Hägg at 15 isn’t such a bad thing?

That's from the Islanders blog I wrote recently. As for Mueller, he's impressed with size and steadiness. He has a lot of upside with his all-around game.

I hope van drafts none of them. I'm thinking if Erne, Mantha, Rychel fall to us we have to take one. Otherwise Hartman.

No they don't, at least not with their first rounder.

Their G depth is pretty good. Schneider is still young, Lack is younger, and if he recovers well from his surgery appears destined for the NHL, and Cannata has been exceptional in his short pro career.

Good stuff, French.

Emile Poirier sounds like a Gillis pick, he has a thing for overage late blooming QMJHL'ers. I think he'd also be interested in Erne or Rychel if they're available.

Do you think Morrisey will be picked before us? Because he's exactly what we need. Either him or Lazar.

No to Mantha. Yes to Erne. Rychel is a maybe. If we pick him I wont be mad, but there's others I'm higher on. Manthas character and work ethic scare me. Total floater without much passion. If he had those qualities he'd be more highly regarded. The definition of a high risk high reaward player, and with this daft crop, wouldn't be smart.
