I just don't believe we spent a day talking about a coach that has never coached an NHL game in his life.

- VANTEL

It's kinda like spending 3 days on firing coaches who haven't been hired yet....

I don't even know where to begin on this one!

What I got was Grabo is a superstar and Dion isn't a bad contract.

Funny, I'd be looking to dump one of those guys

So a GM that was fired 4 years ago as a coach is rehired , and hires a coach with no NHL experience to coach a team whose core has very little experience.

If you ask me Oilers will be a top 5 draft pick next year

- VANTEL

Depends what they (MacT) do this summer, if he makes big moves like Mike Gillis...they're in trouble.

If Gillis sits around and does nothing this year he deserves to get canned. I will settle for nothing less than Nino, a top 4 draft , Schenn Couterier or Simmonds and a very respectable UFA

T.O doesn't care what Gillis has to say just look at the mess he created - Reimer did well with only being paid a fraction of your #1 chock artist. Eakins wouldn't have signed in Vancouver because it's a disaster in the making more than 10 guys unsigned already at the cap. Eakins is not a stupid man he told the Leafs he wanted to be an NHL coach and they gave permission to any team.

My guess your going to get a lame duck dude to coach in Vancouver someone Gillis can blame when they mess up again.

I'm glad my team doesn't define itself on a team on the other side of the continent they have there own issues to deal with ie., more than 10 million below the cap 0 bad contracts with two years to buy out anyone or take on a bad contract to buyout so they could get a quality player in the mix.

I think Gillis and the Nucks feel the pinch of being offered 2 second round picks and a backup goalie who's paid under 700k. That my friends will be the best offer Vancouver gets for Luongo he's been toiled around since last season he has confidence issues and while he could have been moved somehow he wasn't and in a few weeks the Vancouver fire sale will begin in earnest. I say 5 roster players from last year are gone for chump change picks.

But then again those of you who envy Toronto because the GTA has more people than all the provinces from Manitoba to BC because lets face it it's a good place to be.... We don't care if you interview whomever it just shows that Vancouver realizes where the quality is. it's certainly not from your development system.

What the hell was that?

What is a chock artist? Someone who paints wheel chocks? I've only ever seen bright yellow, orange or black chocks in my travels- would be interesting to see something different.

And really, a Leaf fan making fun of any player or team, this year, for choking. Being up 4-1 with 8 minutes to play, then loosing. I'm a Leaf fan as well - that was damn tough to see. But really, pick your battles. It's like a Canucks fan jumping on a Bruins page ripping Chara for his dive the other night. Don't feed the bears.

Eakins signed in Emonton becuase it is a great fit with all the youngsters. As well, they may have very well been the only team to have given him an offer. Personally, I think the Canucks weren't completely sold on him and are waiting to interview a few coaches with more NHL experience. I would not be surprised to see John Stevens behind the bench next year.

Between Katz and Lowe that team is f@cked unless Mac T tells both to go f@ck there hat and does whatever he wants. I'm sure any success Mac has as GM will be short lived. The Pres will get his dirty meat hooks in there some how and (frank) everything up. Mac T will get promoted to President and Lowe will be promoted to Intergalactic Extreme Overlord President.

My guess is the Canucks liked Eakins and liked him a lot but he wasn't their first choice but instead a backup plan.

Gillis knows this decision will probably determine his long term fate with the team and maybe wasn't convinced that a guy with no NHL HC experience was the right choice to lead a veteran team.

I also think he wants to interview as many people as possible which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Take your time and hire the guy that is the right fit for the style and team we have.

Am I disappointed that Eakins went to EDM?...Not really...i've never seen a Marlies game in my life so my impressions of him as a coach are based on the media fawning surrounding him.

Scott Arniel was the hot AHL coach a couple of years ago and we saw how that turned out.

I can't really be disappointed that Eakins isn't coaching in Vancouver (nor relieved). Time will tell....

Unless Semenko is coming out of retirement I see a bunch of the same crap as last year. You have a 98 pound first line center that trips and gets injured. They need some size and some grit along with veteran players.

Yah it's kind of funny the Canes and Lightning fans aren't still riding their Cup wins, but Oilers and Leafs fans are.

do we get to still brag about the back-to-back Prezs' in 2047?

- IanEsplen

That's because it is 2 well established hockey teams in Canada versus 2 teams playing in the sun belt of the USA, rabid fan base vs not so much.

Truly though regardless of the history between the two I would like to see MG interview Gary Roberts. Not even joking. If they are looking at guy without NHL coaching experience why not.

Two interviews does not mean he was offered the job. In fact, it is been highly publicized that he left Vancouver with no job offer after the second interview.

Who considers losing in the Stanley Cup Final success???

- KB3Point0

The year the Canucks went to the final we watched 8 months of unbelievably exciting and entertaining hockey. I couldn't wait for every game to begin, the Canucks were fun to watch and winning at an incredible pace.

So we had 8 months of thrilling, exciting hockey and 1 week of misery at the end, was that a success? The players might not consider it success but for me I simply watch hockey to be entertained and as a Canucks fan I have had a lot of entertainment value the last 10 years and especially that year.

Hopefully it will result in a Cup at some point but whether that happens or not it won't affect my life in the slightest I just continue to hope that I am entertained on a nightly basis.

After how he defended Cody, and the derogatory comments he made to MG, I just don't quiiiiiiiiiiiiite see him getting a call for an interview... or MG even answering a phone call from him for that matter
