After how he defended Cody, and the derogatory comments he made to MG, I just don't quiiiiiiiiiiiiite see him getting a call for an interview... or MG even answering a phone call from him for that matter - DariusKnight

Vancouver Canucks have permission to talk to Kings assistant coach John Stevens about their head coaching job. He's a quality guy.

Looks like the canucks have been granted permission by La kings to speak to assistant coach John Stevens about a coaching job presumably for head coach. They also interviewed Joe sacco as well this week. I wouldn't hire either one for head coach for the Canucks but I keep hearing John Stevens might be getting the job.
What are your thoughts on Stevens as head coach of Vancouver?

We can only hope that Gulutzan aced his interview. |

I wonder what Flyers fans think of Stevens' actually coaching ability besides the whole dry island disaster. I believe that was his first coaching job in the NHL as well(wasn't even an associate/assistant before). Not saying that I like him as the next head coach, but Gillis must like him so much for a reason. |

I think a lot of smart hockey management and coaches like those two.
Ballard was a top 4 d-man that played physical, is a great skater, put up around 30 points per season and played in all situations. He usually was leading his teams in hits and blocks as well.
David Booth, big strong north-south type of guy that can really skate and put up 20+ goals in 3 of his last 4 season before he got here(only season he didn't was when Richards wrecked him).
Multiple teams had interest in both, and for good reason too. |

I think if deals cant be found for those two. Then we will be excited to see what they can do under another coaching system. I really hope we can run a fast offense with a run and gun type show.

Neither of them had a fair shake. I think both would do well under a new coach. I like Ballard but much like Lu probably just needs to get the f@ck out. Booth is a bubble guy who MG might give a shot. From his Twitter messages he seems pretty pissed how last season turned out. If it were me personally I would give him a shot. A guy with something to prove not only to himself but to his teammates is a guy I want on my team. |

The smart one's don't need the memo. I'd be jumping to sign both as a GM if they got bought out since they'd be had much cheaper. |

Booth is in the prime of his career if his head is in the right place he could be a really good piece to this team. Other than AV being ousted we haven't really heard much. When July 1st rolls around we will see if he really is going to hit the rest button. |

..... no but I've seen enough already. Booth is a good complimentary 2nd line LW'er, but I don't think he's a good fit here at $4.25 million? As for Ballard, he's a good defenseman, but he needs a change of scenery. |

He left Vancouver after his second interview without an offer. He wasn't the guy the Canucks wanted. They want someone with NHL head coaching experience. - KB3Point0
Then why interview him? Why offer a 2nd interview?
I don't know what the Canuckls want, but this argument is ridiculous. |

I'm glad we didn't hire Eakins. No offense to Oilers fans, as he could be a great mentor.
But the risk is high.
He has never coached in the Playoffs.
He has always coached a defensive style low scoring strategy (Marlies where bottom 3rd in scoring), but is a solid defensive coach.
No NHL experience. - moondawg
I have news for you...that defensive, low scoring game is Vancouver's only chance of winning right now. Their offense is...not great. |
