in my experience.. booster clubs are all the kids that were insecure and made fun of in high school who ban together now and act like the kids that use to make fun of them...i can only speak to the BST booster club. while i know many nice people in the club..collectively they are a group of grumpy people. i can sum it up best..as i was doing shots with Drew Fata and Kip Brennan one night Drew said "don't you ever join the booster club or i'll kick your ass...just be a fan not a weirdo"

Does anyone on here belong to the booster club? Just curious. Also, is a booster club relevant to a professional sports team in this day and age?
- cranktheradio

I have been a member since 1989. Yes, the idea of a Booster/Fan Club is not the same as it was 20 years ago, but it still a vital cog.

We work with the team, and help them with anything they ask. We promote what we can for them.

But as Ron said in Dee's piece, it is an opportunity to get a little more up close and personal than most fans get. At the meetings the players can relax a little more than at a card signing, or other type of get-together, and I know that they can appreciate that.

As for what happens in Bklyn, it is hard to say. Ron is right that a great deal of members on the board of the club are not becoming full-time STH's there. We will see, but I am sure that the club will not only continue, but will thrive as the team improves.

BTW - Booster/Fan Clubs (by this definition is organizations that are run by FANS, and no overseeing by the big club) exist in the following teams:

Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Detroit, Florida, LA, NJ, NYI, NYR, Philly, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Jose, Washington. Plus there are Fan Clubs STILL existing in Hartford, California Golden Seals, Atlanta, Cleveland, Minnesota North Stars among others.

The Canadian teams usually run their fan clubs, so they are NOT a part of this equation. The old Winnipeg Jets had a club in the NHL Organization of Booster Clubs, and may come back. Vancouver had one that has since disbanded. Also - Tampa Bay, Boston, and Anaheim are also defunct.

That is my $0.02.

More folks than not still in favor of dealing the 15th overall? At this point I'd lean toward holding it and selecting the best available player. In such a deep draft, I'm not sure how smart it is to go in with no picks in the top two rounds...

Funny how Yormark says "We" when talking about decisions related to the Islanders. Makes me think Wang really isn't alone anymore when it comes to ownership of the team. Maybe the Barclays folks like Yormark and Ratner really are ready to step in and commit resources to to the team. If the tradeoff for that is some black in the jersey or whatever, I'd live with it.

as is in every potential trade its hard to evaluate whether to hold onto or trade an asset when we dont know whats coming back...having said that, assuming the package is of equal (or greater) value..im 100% all for trading the pick

I'd also prefer we keep the pick. At this point we have a nice amount of talent in our system at all positions so now it's just about keeping the pipeline steady year by year. Take the best player available and develop them responsibly. Unless we have a player in our sites and feel they'll drop and we can somehow nail a second rounder out of another team to move up a few spots, we're best off standing pat.

I don't beleive Wang will EVER sell his share of the team, but it wouldn't shock me if he sold a percentage to gain a partnership. That's essentially what he wanted when he purchased the team until Sanji went bye-bye.

On the flip side of that, it should be a given.. since they traveled 550 miles, that they would also stay on as boosters for that 20 mile trek to Brooklyn.. right?

the booster club is extremely important to the isles and quite frankly we should be interviewing and dare i say bowing down to those that show up (and pay) to go to islander conventions
- LetsGoIsles

Is that like a Star Trek convention?....

Look, I'm glad this team has people who support it. What is starting to get to me, however, are the people whining about how much it sucks that they're moving to Brooklyn (you'd think they were moving to Australia, with the way some people are acting), and what might happen to the uniforms (what, you didn't think they were going to make at least one gangsta uniform, playing in Brooklyn? Every rap artist who doesn't know hockey from tiddlywinks will be a walking advertisement for this franchise). The bottom line is Nassau and Hempstead went through 20 years and 5 ownership groups needing a new building, and they collectively did nothing. When someone tried to do something, they refused to let anything happen. They are teats on a bull worthless, and they are the reason the team is moving, so whine at them, not Charles Wang.

The Long Island fans complaining about "Wang moving the Islanders to Brooklyn" is getting really old. Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead didn't want your beloved hockey team- that's why they are moving. Always remember that this is the TRUTH of this matter.
