i don't really disagree with any of this, but unrestricted free agency is the deterrent for me. the amount of bad contracts signed is overwhelming, and anyone with any sort of hype is going to be overpaid. i bet even gordon gets the matthew lombardi contract, and it becomes an issue down the road.
would love to have clarkson, but he strikes me as a better colby armstrong (when colby signed his free agency contract). i'm almost willing to bet he gets grossly overpaid, and fizzles well before the end of his contract.

Which is why anyone looking for a power forward should really look to see if they can pry the 4th/5th pick for Barkov or Nichushkin.
