as disgusting as it sounds, that's probably 10-11 million on the open market. all of which will eventually be third liners at best at some point during their new contracts.

Bickell would be a 3rd line LW on this team, Gordon a 4th line C, and Clarkson a 2nd line RW.

From my perspective, I'd pass on Bickell (way overvalued, due to his playoff performance, and extremely unlikely to live up to it....see Leino), sign Gordon (relatively cheap faceoff/pk specialist), and sign Clarkson (overvalued, but helps balance out the wings, brings some needed jam in the top two lines, and some more leadership).

Hope he can put on a little more size though, and not be as intimidated by the older NHL players.

i don't really disagree with any of this, but unrestricted free agency is the deterrent for me. the amount of bad contracts signed is overwhelming, and anyone with any sort of hype is going to be overpaid. i bet even gordon gets the matthew lombardi contract, and it becomes an issue down the road.

would love to have clarkson, but he strikes me as a better colby armstrong (when colby signed his free agency contract). i'm almost willing to bet he gets grossly overpaid, and fizzles well before the end of his contract.
