You might be referencing something that I said. It's not that Marc Staal isn't a legit top pairing D,he is, but I wonder if he's the best D on an average NHL D squad if he gets that much respect. I mean is he the "elite" guy you build your back end around? I just don't see him in the same category as Weber,Chara,Pietrangelo,Keith,Doughty,Suter,Karlsson..etc...not even close. He would probably be,however, the best Defender on at least 10 NHL teams currently, especially the Oilers. I still think he will end up in Carolina, and that's a good thing for the Rangers, as the Canes woill waaay over pay for marketing reasons alone.

I watch as few ranger games as I can thank you very much. So your going to judge a guy by interviews which nhl players say what fans and owners want to hear? I'm not gioing to say anything about him being a number 1 or 2 or 3 defenseman. But here are some hard facts... Marc has three brothers playing in Carolina. An opportunity to play with them wont happen on the rangers. He will make as much or more money on Car. Carolina is as nice a place as New York to live and play hockey in. Marc would be without a doubt the number one on Carolina. fact is, New York can't offer Marc as much as Carolina. sorry buddy

I've actually enjoyed a few good debates with you recently... I don;t consider myself a troll... I enjoy most of the contributors on this blog and enjoy debating ith them... there are just to many dum dums on this website that are so homery shortsighted and that doesn;t disclude the pens fans either

a little late but from the last thread:
mcdonagh won't be traded for anyone on your team in a 1 on 1 trade. this kid is gonna win the norris one day.

only people i consider trading mcdonagh for are named crosby, karlsson, and patrick kane.

as for contracts...f gonchar's deal. mcdonagh will sign for about 35-38 million for 8 years. don't doubt sather when it comes to trades or signing RFAs. when the rick nash trade was announced it was going through, everybody invaded the rangers thread saying it was gonna be stepan or mdz or hagelin or girardi or staal or callahan or kreider in the deal and none of them were. when mdz's contract extension was announced, people said he was gonna be signed for over 4 mil a season because of john carlson's contract or some other dude's contract that was over 4 mil but he was only signed for 2.5 mil.

marc staal is a legit #1 defender and was the rangers best defenseman before his concussion and regained that form right before the eye injury. he'll be back at that level by the all-star break and is exactly what you guys need: a physical, mobile, tough, 2-way defenseman that excels in the defensive aspect of the game, can eat up minutes, and is starting to really add good offense to his game. he's just entering his peak, has already been an allstar, and was the rangers #1 defenseman successfully for years before mcdonagh and girardi's emergence and probably would still be if it wasn't for the injuries.

thank you... some may consider me a troll when I come in and say "hemsky isn't getting you a 1st round pick" but I'm just responding to the blogger. feel free to debate I'm wrong. I've made some jokes at richards expense as well, but I'll also say he is entertaining and promotes discussion... almost as much as he loves cuddling with his Klefbom blowup doll.

i know it sounds ludicrous but unless you've seen this kid play as much as the average ranger fan, you'll know that this kid WILL win the norris sooner rather than later and that the sky is literally the limit for him. i wouldn't trade him for weber or chara.
