yeah, i've watched more than one game, but i could have watched all 123 games he's played at the NHL level and it wouldnt have convinced me the 42 points he's put up over that span has earned him this mega-hype he's gotten. He's not a huge liability, but he's not the second coming of Datsyuk that some people are making him out to be.

i've probably seen roughly 40 games he's played in. he just wasnt that noticable/gamechanging. No different than at least 200 other players in teh NHL.

and the 'potential' talk is a giant can of worms that is all pure speculation.

we're saying he's the 2nd coming of partice bergeron. you know, the guy that's won the selke, is arguably the most underrated center in the entire league, and has won a cup as the team's top center and is now in the stanley cup finals again as the team's top center. yea...that guy.

That makes sense because whoever told you that Couturier is the next Datsyuk knows as much hockey as you do and those type of people tend to congregate.

Couturier, to me, is projected to be a good 2nd line/stud 3rd line shutdown center that can pot 50 points a year, and on top years hit Low 60's. He has a good hard shot and great vision, long reach. He isn't dynamic offensively like Datsyuk, and anyone that compared the two is a clown. Couturier does not have Datsyuk's superb positional play but for his age he is one of the best. And a lot of that comes with experience. He isn't a strong skater, but he is strong on his skates, and his defensive play is excellent.

Maybe a Hjalmarsson for Gagner deal may be still an option in the off season but I doubt it happens now. I suggested it a few months ago and most Oil fans said no way they would do that deal. I do recall one guy saying Hjalmarsson would be a 3rd pairing D man on the Oil

what makes you such an expert on this? how do you know for a fact that marc wants to join his brothers? just because jordan did doesn't mean marc wants to. jordan was 1 prospect away from being a ranger...so if that happened, then would eric 100% defect to the rangers or demand a trade here? no, eric would stay on the hurricanes and this wouldn't even be a discussion. i don't understand why marc isn't held to the same logic.

he loves new york; he took a pay cut to stay here. he wants to win a cup; the rangers are closer to contending than the hurricanes. he LOVES competing AGAINST his brothers; he can't do that if he plays on their team. him and his wife's entire life is in new york.

I'm as much an expert as you friend. Without the ranger shades on. Rangers are no closer than Carolina to be a cup competitor... in fact, if they follow their weird pattern then they will be cup favorites next year. Don't pretend to be Marc Staals BFF and expect to be taken seriously. Odds are in this case that I am far more correct than you and we shall see at either the deadline (if the rangers are outclassed by all the tough compitition next season with new division) or at the draft. I will give you a public shout out on all relevant boards if he resigns with Rangers (or gets traded to any team besides Car for anything clase to his actual value), but don't hold your breath
