why would you play Yakupov on LW?? he's known for his one timer from the right hand faceoff circle, that's what he's all about, heeeehawwwww
- SpoiledByOil

This is my thought too. I didn't think he did that well last year when he was on the Left side either. He's use to playing right wing, leave him on right wing.

Edmonton dont have value unless they trade eberle, hall, rnh, schultz or yakupov, lets be honest even paarjarvi barely has trade value.

Hemsky + Horcoff give me a break, one year left on hemsky's contract and horcoff is pretty much the new scott gomez.

- walek

So aside from stupidly throwing our star players away, what do you suggest we do?

Are you retarded?

Contrary to what crap Richard Cloutier spews in regards to Horcoff having negative trade value, that simply isn't the case.

Horcoff would be a welcome asset for a team needing to hit the cap floor. He carries a high cap hit and the actual money said team would have to pay out for Horcoff is far less than his cap hit.

when Horc signed his deal, he had a better PPG and better underlying stats than Bozak does right now.

Only positive difference for bozak is Bozak is 27 and Horc was 30

- TheNugeIsHuge

Horcs actually had pretty good stats when he signed I can see how he got that contract. Check out his three years compared to Kesler's leading up to his deal, and they're pretty comparable.

With the commitment we'll have to make to Bozak, I guess I'm not sure why people think a better 3C won't come along. Especially at 4+ million dollars

It's extremely obvious that the Oilers are wanting to draft a big center more than anything else. If fate smiles upon them, they'll gladly take winger Valeri Nishushkin if he's still available. Everyone seems convinced that the Oilers are going to take a defenseman...Darnell Nurse in particular...but the people suggesting it seem oblivious to the Oilers prospect situation. The future on D is okay for the Oilers. The future up front, especially at center, is questionable. With Horcoff on the way out, the Oilers would be best served by finding his replacement at the draft.

Except NHL teams aren't playing XBOX and don't believe in said philosophy. Teams will always draft the best player available. If Nurse is on the board at #7, it's argue able he's the best player available.

And this is exactly what you'll say if they do end up drafting.

"So Oilers end up with Nurse, not the end of the world. Him and Klefbom will run the Oilers blue-line for the next 15 seasons, and now someone like Gernat, Fedun, Musil, or Simpson can be moved for forward help. Drafting the best player available is a safe and effective strategy. This was a solid move, this is not the end of world."

There, I just wrote a fraction of your post draft blog. Your welcome.

Especially since we've already invested a 1st overall, a 6th overall, a 40th overall (Lander), a 31st overall (Pitlick), two splash signings (Horcoff and Belanger) and a trade (Smithson) into centre depth. But putting aside that I don't think we're in that dire straits in terms of forward depth, drafting a player to fit team needs now for whom it will be near impossible to make positive impact for a couple of years - good two-way for Monahan or good smarts for Lindholm be damned, they probably won't be able to replace Horcoff in 13-14 - is foolish imo.

Drafting by position period is retarded. Draft the player who will end up having the biggest impact for your hockey club. It's that simple.

This is perhaps the more interesting discussion because there might, somewhere, be interest in him. The Oilers could approach this one of two ways. I'm not sure there is a right answer here. Judge for yourselves.

lol. He said Horcoff has negative value. But yes EDM has value in things like the 7th overall, Klefbom, Marincin, Musil. Wouldn't bring in a #1 Dman, but it could surely bring in impact players.

The Oilers could really use a top 4 Dman and the Bruins are really strapped against the cap heading into next season. There is some speculation that Boychuck could be available this summer due to cap constraints. He would be a good fit in Edm and could really give them big minutes.

The Oilers 1st rounds picks from 2013 until 2056 have played 0 nhl games combined. Do they have no value whatsoever?

As would I. But I just don't understand why Boychuck is the first guy to be moved from Boston. If you can't afford 3.3mil for your #3 d-man you are (frank)ed.

I do however wonder if Kessel 2.0 happens.

I'm kinda serious though. They dealt Kessel because of cap space. So who now would give the best return? Heck deal him to Florida for Kulikov+ or the 2nd overall?
