I think the oilers should get weiss. he was injured last year but should be good to go and would be a solid 2nd line option and then also draft a center. what about a trade with coyotes say gagner for gormley or yotes 1st??
- allen_gamble

Although Weiss is a fine player, he's a soft 2nd line centre, we got 0ne of those already,8a8ner and we kinda are ho hum about should he stay or should he go. so Weiss makes us better but doesn't plug any hole we got, and we gots plenty

None of our prospects aside from Klefbom are skilled enough to become NHL material. I'm sorry but someone has to say it. I suppose that Gernat, Rajala and maybe Marincin might just have a spot some day, but not anytime soon.

I will say this again for the thousandth time: This draft is crucial for the oilers. The amount of talent that's (in some cases) in the second round to the fourth round is unbelievable. Knowing this, Horcoff and Hemsky would be great for Florida since they need immediate players. Trade them BOTH to Florida for their second round pick. It benefits everyone. With that pick, choose Nic Petan. The kid might be a bit small, but he's only 17 (might be 18, not sure) and will grow. Any player that scores 120 points in the WHL is more than likely to go far in the NHL. Just like Clouts said, and we all know it, we need better offensive prospects. Someone who will make a difference and we can count on in the future. I still think that trading down the pick would be wise, as well as the best option. Trade the pick (and obviously someone else) to Columbus for either their 14th and 19th, or their 14th and 27th. With the 27th pick, I recommend either picking up Theodore or Morin.

But this is just me talking..

Clouts is wrong. Horcoff will not be bought out. I'm only going of what Mac T says. He expects a signifigant return. Who knows what that is, but that is the plan. I will bet both my rights nutz he isn't bought out. Whether he can pull off a trade is another story.

was thinking it would be a good stop gap if you get lindholm or monahan as they wouldnt be nhl ready, would then allow the trading of gagner for help on D

I think if Monohan is still there at 7 (and the Oilers still own that pick) they have to take him. If there's one thing the Oilers are in need of is a true #2 Centre. Dont get me wrong, I like Gagner and like what he brings offensively but he's not a #2. The Oilers dont need to draft another D at 7. We can all name lots of D prospects in the system who can work their way into the line up but can you name one prospect currently owned by the Oilers who fits the #2C, or even the #3C slot? Mark Arcobello?? Come on, seriously.

Do the right thing MacT, take your big skilled C with that pick and start building the middle to go with the plethora of skilled wingers on the roster.

That would being signing him for 2 or 3 years. He isn't getting out of bed for less than 5.

It fills two holes, actually. Weiss brings a solid two-way game and faceoff prowess to the table that Gagner doesn't and also covers the need for a veteran presence that has some leadership experience. I'd love to have him assuming we could grab a few other upgrades to our team. If I may, I'd like to suggest this as a logical setup for our forwards:

Hall- Weiss- Yakupov
Bickell/MacArthur/Penner/Morrow- Nuge- Eberle
Paajarvi- Zubrus- Larose
Smyth/Hartikainen/Richardson- Hendricks/Gordon/Santorelli- Brown

To summarize my thoughts:

- Weiss would likely be an acquisition that would facilitate the trading of Gagner and would likely carry around a $4 million cap hit for at least 4 years.

- One of Bickell ($3-3.5m for 4), MacArthur ($2-2.5m for 2), Penner ($2.5-3m for 2), or Morrow ($1.5-2.5m for 3) would fill a need for a top-9 winger. Most of them play fairly physical games that are complimented by a fairly solid set of skills. Bickell is likely to be this year's Penner, but on a longer deal. Morrow brings leadership, winning attitude, and a mentor for Hartikainen.

- Adding Zubrus ($2-2.5m for 2) and Larose ($1.5-2m for 4) to the 3rd line facilitates the need for two-way veteran presences with winning attitudes on the 3rd line and will both help mentor Paajarvi on the in-and-outs of the game. There aren't many 3Cs available this FA period else I'd have suggested more. Trades are always an option, though!

- The 4th line explains itself. It's just a gathering of gritty, defensively-capable forwards capable of playing more minutes if needed (save for Brown). Gordon in particular was playing well with 3C minutes in PHX this past season. Hopefully we can push Hartikainen (and Lander) down for one more year until he's more complete defensively.

Thoughts?

Horcoff has 2yrs left at 5.5mil cap hit...
And don't go bashing yet...would someone like Komisarek fit in as a 6th or 7th d-man with the Oil? His contract is done at the end of this coming season. So he would only be a 1yr experiment, maybe a change of scenery would help him...his cap hit is $4.5mil, Oil saves $1mil this year towards cap, and $5.5mil next year.
What about Horcoff and a pick/prospect for Komisarek, and Leafs buy out Horcoff?

edm is not going to be so lucky just taking a 2nd rounder back. florida will toss back campbell or upshall minimum.

If McT could pull these deals off, he'd be the new mayor of edmonton.

In all seriousness though, (at the risk of sounding like a homer and potentially beating a dead horse), but the oilers are one of the few teams that could financially and player-wise offer a legit package to Nashville for Weber.

Klefblom (sorry RC!), 2014 first round pick, 2014 second round pick Horcoff and Hemsky.

Hemsky rides shotgun with young Forsberg and Horc can protect Forsberg, Spaling and Smith from some of the tough minutes (like he's done here). Maybe one of the three gets sent back to Milwaukee?

I know we have to wait until July 24 for Webber to be eligible for a trade (risky), but we could do it.

Campbell eh? Well in that case I'd take that. But I doubt it'll happen. They'd send a second round over before him. Giving us Campbell would completely mess them up on D.

How is Gagner not a #2-caliber center? This bewilders me. He's got point totals in the 40's for 5 straight years all before turning 23, then had 38 points in 48 games this past season at 23 years of age. I don't know how some Oilers fans see him as so expendable. We'll take him on Long Island if you don't want him.
