Ok. But after that I STOPPED. I said HALL is beast. And you take it as sarcasm.
- Allstarzz

Hall for MVP next season is a classic sarcasm line. It's like if I said "TO FOR THE CUP NEXT SEASON". Hall clearly won't beat out Crosby, Stamkos, Malkin, etc. TO clearly won't beat out CHI, LA, BOS, PIT, NYR, etc.

Hall could easilly win an MVP if he can carry the Oilers to the playoffs. Look at what Tavares did...

tavares didn't carry NYI to the playoffs. NYI did. Hall had a better season. 3 more points in 3 less games. Hall +5 on a team that was -9. Tavares -2 on a team that was even. Hall played tougher comp and had a better corsi.

Tavares didn't deserve a hart nomination. Bobrovsky should win it. Almost single handedly brought CBJ to the playoffs with a .932

Hall could quite possibly be a point per game player for the next 10 years. But is he on the same level as Crosby, no. I think there might only be 6/7 players i would trade hall for straight up in the league.

Crosby
Tavares
Stamkos
Malkin
Chara
Weber

MAYBE
The twins if they came as one and were 6 years younger and Big Joe Thorton

Kostka sucks. Fraser is a good 6th d-man. Of course you wouldn't know that. He along with Franson was our best pair all year. LOL edm been poop for so long.Leafs youngest team in the league. We will see who makes the playoffs next year. Leafs will get Horton and we need a top 3 d-man and we are a legit playoff team. NVM still missing a top line center. But edmonton needs 5 more d lol
- Allstarzz

With Khabibulin, Whitney, Horcoff, Smyth, Belanger, Smithson, Petrell, Potter and Hemsky out the door, the oilers might be the youngest team in the league next year. We'll see what good it does them.

So if Fraser is good enough, what are Smid and Petry? Nick Schultz?

Hands off Simmonds

He's going to be Bostons replacement for Horton.

the hart trophy by definition is not who the best player in the league is. it's the most valuable player to his team.
Tavares absolutely belongs in that conversation. he was the best player, leader and biggest reason a mediocre team picked by most to struggle mightily, went on a tear and made the playoffs.
that's hart trophy worthy seven days a week

and along with that definition, it doesn't matter that hall isn't in Crosby or datsyuks class. I think its certainly possible he gets hart consideration in the next few years depending on a few factors

Hall is King... 50 points in 45 games and a +5 on a -9 team. Slap my ass and call me Sally, there's not many players who can replicate that.

P.S. Tavares was less than a PPG, and he was a minus player on an even team. Suck it, everyone.

Cheers!

I could see Hall getting Hart consideration as early as next year. Similar to Tavares leading the Isles this year. A healthy Hall can dominate games.

I don't see how how single-handedly brought his team to the playoffs. Hall had a better regular season performance. Tavares didn't carry sh*t. You're just eating up what the MSM says

I think Dallas set an unsettling benchmark with gonchar. 37 declining defense man getting 5 mill a year. I hate them. On one hand if more people do this we will get our needed bottom 6 players really cheap. However getting streit just got more expensive. We need to try to get that done now.

They need dmen and 2 goalies. The rights to whitney, fistric or habby has to interest them a little.

As for trading up. We agree Calgary and Carolina need players that can help them now. Calgary can use... every position. Carolina needs a dman. These two MIGHT actually want Hemsky. Actually. However I would offer them Nick. Our 5-6 guy would be a 1-2 on Calgary and a 2-4 on Carolina. Then throw in a prospect. Acrobella comes to mind or musil. Two players that in theory can compete for a role on their teams this year. We are not going to play Acrobella and Rajala without signing that 5'7 guy from the USHL to finish that line off. So trade one. Acrobella has NHL time. Musil is a great prospect. However with Justin, Petry, Fedun, Marcinin, and Klefbom, we will probably never play him.

Odds are we will be dealing for Barkov or Monahan. I personally think this draft is made up of 4 great players. 2 pretty confident picks and then a mix of gems scattered through. Barkov and Monahan are easier to turn down for these guys if they get an NHL ready forward. A top 4 dman that ranked in the top 10 for blocked shots. Plus a good d prospect. Also they can pick from a bunch of good dmen or someone like Horvat/Domi/Lind who scouts seem to dangle with placing in the top 10. Any of these forwards might turn out better than Barkov or Monahan, they just don't fit the Oilers needs as much as the other two do.

It fills two holes, actually. Weiss brings a solid two-way game and faceoff prowess to the table that Gagner doesn't and also covers the need for a veteran presence that has some leadership experience. I'd love to have him assuming we could grab a few other upgrades to our team. If I may, I'd like to suggest this as a logical setup for our forwards:

Hall- Weiss- Yakupov
Bickell/MacArthur/Penner/Morrow- Nuge- Eberle
Paajarvi- Zubrus- Larose
Smyth/Hartikainen/Richardson- Hendricks/Gordon/Santorelli- Brown

To summarize my thoughts:

- Weiss would likely be an acquisition that would facilitate the trading of Gagner and would likely carry around a $4 million cap hit for at least 4 years.

- One of Bickell ($3-3.5m for 4), MacArthur ($2-2.5m for 2), Penner ($2.5-3m for 2), or Morrow ($1.5-2.5m for 3) would fill a need for a top-9 winger. Most of them play fairly physical games that are complimented by a fairly solid set of skills. Bickell is likely to be this year's Penner, but on a longer deal. Morrow brings leadership, winning attitude, and a mentor for Hartikainen.

- Adding Zubrus ($2-2.5m for 2) and Larose ($1.5-2m for 4) to the 3rd line facilitates the need for two-way veteran presences with winning attitudes on the 3rd line and will both help mentor Paajarvi on the in-and-outs of the game. There aren't many 3Cs available this FA period else I'd have suggested more. Trades are always an option, though!

- The 4th line explains itself. It's just a gathering of gritty, defensively-capable forwards capable of playing more minutes if needed (save for Brown). Gordon in particular was playing well with 3C minutes in PHX this past season. Hopefully we can push Hartikainen (and Lander) down for one more year until he's more complete defensively.

Thoughts?

I think you have to be very careful when it comes to acquiring draft picks. Look at Larson for New Jersey, look at the hype that came with this player. Look at Jersey's defense and he can barely make the team.
Every year its the same, if you pick this player all your troubles are over. Experts say you wont get a 1st round pick for Hemsky, ask yourself this how many players taken in the 20-30 pick in the last 5 years have more PPG than Hemsky , there will be a few, most of those players will have less. When you get to the second round that numbers dwindles even more. When you look at the top d men in the league only 1 or 2 of these players were picked in the top ten at the draft.
I would like to see the Oilers trade down. Send Hemsky to another team along with your 7th pick for 2 1st round picks. Probably Columbus would be a good bet.

I didn't say single handedly. I said biggest reason and most valuable player to his team. and again, this is the definition of a hart trophy candidate.

if you're going to accuse me of not being able to come up with my own opinion without the media telling me whats what, that's fine. but at least learn to read the post.
and on the flip side, if you don't agree Tavares was by far and away the best player on the isles, ill wager you haven seen much of NYI

jesus fuk. streits gonna be asking 5.5.

i was interested in signing streit, but not at that price for anything more than a year.
mact doesn't have a lot of options in the free agent pool, but he should walk away from this one if that's the price

look, lets keep it honest. Oilers are my 2nd favorite team. What do you realisty think Hemsky is getting? I love horcoff but I doubt teams are touching the $5.5 cap hit unless a contract is coming back.

I always love ales' stick work but this isn't 2006 and if he couldn't get it done with edmonton's cast, how will he say with Turris or Spezza?
