I think they are still trying to win a Cup, but they aren't as all in as they maybe have been in the past.

You look at the roster and I think they are still top-10 in the NHL so I don't see how or why you would break everything up to suck for 3-5 years. This team is still pretty darn good in my books and if you're pretty darn good, you're not that far off winning a Cup.

I think you will see a core player or two being moved out and a core player or two being brought in.

Finally, a bit of common sense!

Would have been nice if you would have showed the trades that got the trade-up pick and who was picked in the end by the team that moved down; would have helped me consider whether it's a good move or not... but whatever.

Any interest in moving up to the Oilers at #7? Odds are good Lindholm will still be available, but Barkov and Monahan would likely be gone by then.

I have no idea what Van would want from Edm that would be possible (too many untouchables right)... all we have is wingers and 5/6/7 D men to spare

What second line wingers has Kesler played with? He's played with Booth, while healthy, for a couple months only. Definitely not enough time to judge. Apart from that they're consistently attempted to cram 3rd line wingers on his line. Higgins? Raymond? Gimme a break. How is Schroeder going to have MORE success in that role than Kesler???
- KB3Point0

I suggest that Schroeder will have the same amount of success playing with Booth, Kassian, Higgins, Jensen, Burrows, Hansen etc. if he is given second line minutes and second PP time. He won't kill penalties like Kesler did, but I think he can contribute offensively.

Do you see the Canucks ownership being willing to acquire and buyout a big contract this summer to make a significant deal?

Is it finally time to ditch the Sedins to a team that needs offence? They still have decent value despite not being playoff performers.

Not interested in taking Lu's contract back. Van would have to take Horcoff and still throw more in for me to take it.

So, what's your solution to the cap hell Gillis has gotten himself into? Buyout Luongo and Ballard, trade Booth for a 5th round pick, continue to draft in the mid 20's, sign another few fourth liners to play 6 minutes per night?

Problem is they are a pair, not many teams that would be able to take on two players like that.

Van and Edmonton will still be in the same division next year, I doubt they are trading partners. Mini and Col both move to the central division, Det and Col are now in the East, that's four more teams to deal with than before.

generally it was a 2nd or 3rd rd pick to move up a few spots; sometimes even both.

the sedins have not been given a chance to be successful. go look at had more points during the cup run. to say they are not playoff performrers is foolish.

Seems like they'd fit ok in NSH, and NSH has some gritty plugs Van could use. Don't ask me about details though, I don't know any of their prospects and even most of their roster contracts

I would think if Sedins considered a change it would be for a legit chance at a cup, not sure that happens in Nashville. Maybe Edmonton?

Didnt the Canucks trade up to get the Sedins? Cause I remember the Hawks had the second pick and traded it to the Nucks so they could land the twins and that sems to have worked out pretty well.

I wish the Hawks would have hag the guts to go for them.

Canucks traded McCabe and 2000 first to Chicago for 1999 first (4th overall)
Then traded 4th overall plus two 3rd round picks to Tampa for 1st overall
Then traded 1st overall to CBJ for 2nd Overall + conditional 3rd round with the condition being that CBJ draft Patrik Steffan.

Van already owned the 3rd overall.

I wasn't trolling, but my comment is based on the lack of success in the last two years of the playoffs.

What more than top-line minutes together do they need for a chance to be succesful? Aren't they on the PP too? Haven't they tried a numbre of different linemates for them to be succesful?

P.S. When your #1 centre gets 3 goals in 25 playoff games, and his twin brother on the same line gets 9 in 25 games... that's not exactly great playoff performance. Hell even Pisani scored 14 during the Oil's run to the SCF (and it is a run to the SCF, not a Cup run).

Not really. Vancouver had the 3rd pick I think. They traded a 2000 1st and McCabe for the 4th OA pick, traded the 4th OA pick and two 3rds fot the 1st OA pick and then traded the 1st OA pick for the 2nd pick and a 3rd rd pick.

So that one was a trade for a pick rather than move up.

What's their NMC situation?

As an Oil fan, I wouldn't want the Sedins, and I don't think a trade could be crafted to make both teams happy anyways.

So how have Toews and Kane been in the playoffs lately?

I think they have something like 9 combined goals in their past 35 games or something.

12 in 25 is sounding pretty good.

That does not make Schroeder, an undersized player who is not great defensively and has yet to show that he can even contribute at the NHL level (or even with consistency at the AHL level) a better option than Kesler.
- KB3Point0

His defence has been praised at almost every level. Have you even followed his development closely the last few years?

Guy even went on quite a stretch before he had and ES goal scored with him on the ice while he was up with the Canucks.

He was one of the Wolves best defensive forwards and PKers before Arneil took him off.

EDIT: and his offense in the AHL has been fairly consistent, and improving every season.

He's played on a low-scoring AHL team without any offensively gifted linemates or top line minutes.

His ES point production this season in the AHL was very similar to Eberle, Hall, and Kadri's, but because of the Wolves anemic PP his overall totals were lower.
