well that's because as far as I'm aware, the Canucks are the only team with a Jordan Schroeder on their roster.
Do you honestly think the Canucks are a stanley cup team? As is, having Jordan Schroeder as 3C is not going to win or lose the cup for the Canucks.
You seem to have this crazy notion that the 3rd line has to be the shut down line, and that is simply not the case.
And your man crush for Malhotra is a bit strange. The guy was very good at faceoffs, and decent in his own end—nothing more...
I'm not saying Schroeder is the ideal 3C.
I'm saying I'm comfortable with him considering the cap situation the Canucks are in.
He showed he can handle the NHL without looking over his head, and even looked quite good at times, and I'm hoping and expecting he will continue to improve. - Fosco
I agree... he needs time to see if he is legit...... I think the Leafs should do the same thing with Colborne
A) DO YOUR HOMEWORK. It's called capgeek.com 22 teams had AT LEAST 3 of their top 12 forwards signed for $1M or less. The rest usually had their bottom 3 forwards top out at $1.2M.
B) You're dreaming if you think Tanev signs for $1.25M
C) My plan reeks of realism. Gillis isn't blowing up the team. The plan I presented required signing two 4th line wingers, a spare winger and a spare D. I never said anything about being below market value. Market value for those players is below $1M. I left $1M each which should enable them to acquire reasonably good 4th line players.
D) Edler and Burrows are not junk. I said they are available because their no trades don't kick in until July 1. It is actually unlikely that either are traded. - KB3Point0
The Canucks last season had TEN, count them 10 different forward suit up for games last season who made less than $1 million, how did that work out for them?
Tanev had 2 goals and 5 assists, averaged under 18 minutes, he doesn't shoot the puck much, had decent blocked shots and TkA/GvA stats, but nothing out of the ordinary. I like the kid, but he is an RFA, on his second pro contract and he is not worth close to $2 million at this point. I could see him signing a 3 year $4m contract with escalating salary based on his progression.
To be honest, I have no idea what your plan is. Move Luongo, Ballard and Booth, maybe trade Elder and Burrows?
I'd love to hear your pitch though, how are you going to convince the best 3rd and 4th line players to come play in Vancouver for cheap, and which ones are you going to target?

It's gonna take creativity on GMMG's part to plug holes. I can see a situation like this playing out.
Kesler + 1st rounder
For
Gaustad and 4th overall.
That's obviously a framework for a potential deal (maybe it gets it done)
- at this point you see if Nashville wants to hold onto cap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the new CBA a team can keep cap space, but the team who receives the player pays the salary? That's how I see it anyway. This would be a boon to teams who only spend to the cap.
Anyway. Trade an asset or two to create cap space, and sign Fillpulla.
When all things are said and done you have depth down the middle, and a rookie centre in either Barkov or the Russian.

You don't trade Kesler to cut costs, or maybe you're looking at it from a different angle? There are several ways to cut costs, moving Kesler is not one of them.
Moving Kesler to acquire the 4th overall, ok I can see that...maybe???

Sorry? I meant Nashville could cut costs. Gaustad is signed for two more years at around three million. If Nashville wanted to cut three million dollars, but were being held back by their cap situation ( below floor ), they could hold back salary. In this situation the Canucks would pay his salary, but Nashville could spend 3 million under the cap.
Nashville just traded for Filip Forsberg. Adding Kesler would give them a strong team down the middle.

That makes the Canucks worse, we need more top six forwards not less.
Sorry not a good idea, Kesler is of greater need to the Canucks than any of those players. - LeftCoaster
Kesler is a great player, but that scenario would give the Canucks 3 NHL ready bodies. I personally think the Canucks are better off having Gaustad as a 3LC,Fillpula as a 2LC, and acquiring a 20-30 point guy with potential in Barkov or Nishuken.
