Dave Tippett made that mediocre coyotes team look like contenders last year. Now he would be given the most dynamic offense to work with. Oh yea, he actually coaches too
- drummer829

Trick is, how well does he work with stars? Like Bylsma, he was an NHL grinder too. He put together some very good regular seasons with Dallas teams with stars (Modano, Zubov, Guerin, etc), but never went far in the playoffs.

Vigneault is fine on younger players ie. Tanev, he just doesn't put up with whiners ie. Hodgson. If you play hard AV will get along just fine... so I guess he won't get along here cause there seems to be some egos

Sucks that if Bylsma is canned, whoever we bring in will come with less playoff success on their resume.

Who cares.... Bylsma stepped in and got his team on one hot streak and won a cup... then we can see he also had 4 epic meltdowns...in a row... 4!!!! that's enough, start fresh

Any coach would of gotten the pens to the Stanley cup in 09 when Therrien got canned because Bylsma didn't totally incorporate his system. The other 4 playoff years the pens have been in the playoffs have been a complete letdown in one way or another.

Last year Tippett and the yotes shutdown a good hawks team and the predators, but then ran into a tough Kings team who really none of the 16 teams could of beaten. Bring in that defensive system and the offensive firepower the pens have and it has a GREAT chance for success.

You realize that makes zero sense right? If "any coach" would have gotten the pens to the cup in '09, why couldn't Therrien? You act as if winning a cup is easy.

Bylsma certainly has his issues now, but why take credit away from him when he did good things? That '09 run wasn't easy, and he pushed all the right buttons on the way, both with the lineup and strategy. Failures in the last couple years don't wipe out his successes, just like his successes don't give him a pass for his failures.

The coaching change was simply a wake up call for the pens to get their heads out of their ass

@StarsInsideEdge: Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill has announced the club has agreed to terms with Sergei Gonchar.

Well...that escalated quickly

@DarrenDreger: Gonchar and the Stars have reached agreement on a 2 yr deal, believed to be $5 mil per, $10 mil total. Pending signed paperwork. #TSN

KHL bit appeared to work too. Ouch city on the contract.

@JoshFeitknecht: Paul Martin's deal looks better and better. Don't believe me? Wait until Letang negotiations start up...or don't. Also, see Gonchar's deal.

If a 40 year old defenseman gets 5 mil per year, then what the hell will Letang get. It's looking more and more likely that he will be sent somewhere soon

With all the defensive players in the system it's hard to ignore that possibility. I trust Shero to do what's best for the team. He's done more with little. I can't help but be a bit intrigued by what he could get for him. You'd have to think a pick in this upcoming draft would be important. Particularly a high one.

Philly---I don't mean you.

And there is the fact that Bylsma can teach a complex system which can always be dumbed down (should have happened this year).

I'd rather have a coach who's problem is that he needs to simplify rather than one who is too simple and can't extrapolate into the more complex.

Dan's strategy is to forecheck and grind them down. Boston's foewards were too big for our guys to do that. Throw in D jumping into the play when it was not necessary and the turnovers. Not a recipe for success. I don't think Vokoun could have helped any more than he did, I feel bad for him. You can't make fancy passess against a tem like Boston. You screen the goalie and generate shots from the D. The D seems to have forgotten, especially Letang how to take a small side step and get it on net. Fancy stuff doesn't work against Boston.

Going to be a very interesting off-season. If Dan can't get these last two rosters over the top, I don't see how they entrust him with another shot next year. It's likely to be a lesser roster.

Unfortunately, I think Dan will be back next year and I fully expect a similar result. I just can't get past the PP failure in this series. How can he not try giving them a different look. Those last couple were comical. You just new they had no shot of scoring.

Honestly I don't think any roster changes will suffice as long as Bylsma is the coach, we are wasting all these years of these talented players... Dan has had all these chances and the same result happens, the pens get embarrassed in some sort of fashion. Shero cannot be happy going to the table with very little picks and nothing to show for it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Don't think they'd want Glass back, and TK is UFA. But I like E. Kane

probably cant afford Hainsey, even for one year.

would love Bogo, and I know he isn't fabulous, but I doubt the jets trade him.

do love kane though. good type of guy to have.

would anyone consider a letang for subban swap?

I'd take Subban.. and feel dirty for cheering for him.

With the Bergevin/Mario connection, there has to be a Pens/Habs trade at some point, right?

I love subban mainly because he's a but case but wouldn't want him on my team.....unless he brings his brothers with him good goalie prospect

So Gonchar is worth $5mil, that means Letang is worth $7 min....Letang and Malkin will not both be Pens after next season. Is Staal brings a 1st, prospect, and decent roster player....Letang's return coiuld be huge....
