Yup he also loved Tedenby and Josefson. Now all of them could end up being busts. WTF happned... - NickA
If by "love tedenby" you mean dress him and give him 5 minutes of ice time with scrubs, then yes. Josefson is far from a bust. Not the 2nd line player we were hoping, but he'll be a very good defensive forward. |

Zidlicky gone is more icetime for Adam Larsson. That guy better be a top 4 defenseman for you next year or your coach is retarded
Elias coming back or retiring? Brodeur and Hedberg give their hips one more year, will they make it? I dunno I think it's re-build time in Jersey. Except no 2014 1st round pick. Hurts!
P.S Were stealing Clarkson - t_leafs21

Have fun overpaying for 1 good season...I still feel Clarkie is getting a little too big for his britches when it comes to the money he's 'deserved'...don't get me wrong i love him, one of my favorite players and he personifies what a devils player should be...but his dreams of a top 6 permanent role is kinda stupid |

Nope that was Pete. Lemaire played Teddy with Elias and Arnott and actually got something out of him. People forget Teddy did do alright his rookie year. He played in 58 games and had 8g 14a 22pts +3. The following year with Pete is when he played maybe 5 mins on the 4th line if he was lucky. |

Agreed on the Josefson front... he's no bust. If your late first turns into a roster player, then you got a standard late first. He still has the potential to be one of the better two-way centers in the league. I had him rated high last year but he won't be this year.
I don't count Teddy out just yet. I still give him a few years.
I look forward to seeing what Merrill and Larsson can do on the PP next year.

I'm not saying they are busts yet. I know Teddy has about two years before i can officially feel safe labeling him as a bust but it is not looking too good for him right now. I agree Jo will at least be a roster player i just expect a little more offense out of him. Hopefully he reaches his full potential, if he can stay healthy this year and in the nhl that will be a huge obviously.
The PP has to improve and i don't see how it couldn't with either of these two guys. Merrill sounds like exactly what we need on the back end and Larsson has the best vision on the point of any guy on the roster. Gelinas has a chance too as everything they say about him says he has a howitzer. Can't be any worse then last season with Zid running it. Thank god he's not coming back. |

Josefson & Matteau will be 3rd liners. Which is a nice story and all.
Except that NJ needs a top 6 winger & they already have a dozen 3rd-4th liners.
Lou needs to do 2 things this offseason/draft: get younger on the backend, and get a top 6 FW.
Re-signing Elias, Zubrus, and Clarkson if he can live with a modest $4M per are also on that list, but personally those are the 2 things I want to see out of Lou Lams before I start to call him senile.
And NO to Steit. Didn't we learn our lesson with these elderly signings? Especially on defense???? |

Streit is not worth it, after his injuries he has not been the same D-man, plus he's looking for his last payday of around $5.5m, which some dumb team will give him.....
I'm all about the youth bc this game is about speed and kids, so the Devils would be better off with an injection of kids to bring out the energy n hunger you guys lost with Parise.
Devil fans have nothing to worry about, bc you have the best GM in sports...

tedenby is a bust because he refuses to alter his game to fit the devils system. he doesn't play defense and is to soft in the offensive zone. josefson is a bust because he can't play more than 5 games before he breaks something. Larsson is a bust because he was overhyped at draft time and lou fell into the trap. when your the 4th pick you can't be sitting while washed up players like a-train and tallinder plus career 6th defenseman like fayne keep you out of the lineup. Larsson needs to force his way into the lineup and not allow deboer to pull him this season. time to get away from the swedes. draft someone from north America. |

Most of those points were with MacLean. Believe it or not that is where he looked best, because Maclean didn't know how to coach and Teddy wasn't on a leash. Teddy never got more than 2 shifts in the third under Lemaire. |

I give Teddy training camp and 5 games to prove he belongs, before I consider him a definite bust. Not counting on anything from him. |

Not that I disagree with your point that the Devils need to get younger, but a lot of fans overrate youth. They automatically think being young makes them good. Look at the Bruins and Kings. They are two of the most disciplined teams in the league and play their systems fantastically. They both are filled with a lot of vets. It takes a good mix, and there are many growing pains associated with youth. As I said, the Devils do need to start getting younger at this point. We have too many vets, just like teams have too much youth. |

This seems like it will be addressed at the draft. I dont think we should expect Lou to get anyone that is an immediate top 6 producer this off season. |

Definitely need a good balance because the veterans "stablize" the game, which means if you get scored on, they'll make sure the other team doesn't come out and score another one on the next shift. They also don't quit in the third. You need the young guys to have that energetic shift to increase the tempo of the game and catch the other team off guard. Veterans can also add a "winning culture" to a team and role model the younger guys to act more mature, while young guys can make an unpredictable offensive play that's deemed "stupid" and yet works before their game gets too robotic.
I believe in the balance. |
