They would be crying all season long. I do kind of think Torts would be good for Pittsburgh they need some of that attitude, and a kick in the ass. On the other hand they, like the Flyers are built from the forwards down. Weak in goaltending and D.

The style Torts plays will expose them, and Crosby will be on the IR in a month.

From an accountability on the ice perspective he probably would be. I just find it hard to believe that a coach that goes off the handle as much as he does would have any credibility screaming at his team to dial it down and stop losing their composure on the ice...lol

That doesn't even take in to consideration that, as you said, the Pens don't have the personnel to play Tortorella hockey.

Looks like Torts and Bylsma gone, yet Lava stays. I'm just curious to see how much Malkin resigns for, I would be surprised if he takes the hometown discount again. A cap hit of at least $8.7 million isn't cheap, but if Corey Perry gets $8.6 millon/yr, what is Malkin worth?

The Flyers probably feel that they had too many injuries to overcome. Malkin will probably sign for a big cap hit which is why I think Letang will be available.

Its not outside the realm of possibility. Especially after seeing the way the Pens implode when a team plays them physical and gets in their faces.

It starts from the Captain on down the line.

Crosby and Tortorella would be an interesting dynamic to say the least. The team seems to follow Crosby's lead when he gets frustrated, taking bad penalties, losing their tempers, running around looking for hits.

Do they need a coach who goes off the handle just like this team seems to, or do they need a steady even keel coach again.

It really isn't impossible. Maybe not likely, but Shero has to be considering all options after these past two playoffs performances.

I agree it starts with Sid. He didn't put up the points, and it seems to me whenever the Pens start to derail it starts with him. I'm not one to bang the 'Cindy is a whiner' drum so often, but he is prone to bursts of immaturity. Still a (frank)ing incredible player.

They probably need something a bit more in the middle ground, than jumping from nice guy John Stevens Dan Bylsma to Torts, but it is an interesting thought.

Bylsma has done a nice job but getting swept in the ECF I think just sealed his fate. The GM built a powerhouse team before the deadline and the pieces were there for them to win it all. Something has to give after only scoring two goals in four games.

Its a weird situation for me, but I'd probably trade Malkin at this draft.

Crosby will always be the #1, but I have never seen a guy take so much punishment. He constantly gets hacked, and thrown on his ass. They need to be a meaner team next year.

Malkin does help take the pressure off of Sid but with the defensive game/inconsistency concerns I would send him off.

Florida would probably be willing to make a deal.

- flyer_nutter

I don't think you can send of Geno for inconsistency or his defensive game. He gets off his game sometimes, but literally every player does at some point. Simply put, they can't get a player of the same quality as Malkin. He can turn it on and own the ice for extended periods, you just have to roll the dice each season and hope it's at the right time.

Now, Letang is a guy I could see shipping out, both for needed assets and to get the bad taste out of their mouth. He was on the ice for almost every goal against these playoffs, iirc. They do need to get 'meaner'.

Seems to me Bylsma hasn't made the adjustments he needs to. A lot of the blame goes to the players for not living up to expectations (rightfully sky high expectations, to be sure), but it's a matter of the coach not succeeding in his duties more than casting blame. If I called the shots, with the coaches out there this summer I'd send Disco Dan packing.

I agree that Malkin's contract spells the end for Letang. I've been saying for a while now that Letang signs here as a free agent, to seek revenge. I'm thinking a big nWo-esque heel turn

I just don't think they can afford him and pay Crosby and Malkin. They have been loading up on drafting defenseman. The other option is to trade him for a younger defenseman who is much cheaper. There are options, maybe he stays but I think its going to be hard to do.

I never liked a coach that took the forefront of his team. Its not right, and just becomes a distraction.

Looking at capgeek the Flyers would be wise to use the buyouts on Briere and Bryzgalov. Will see what they decide to do.

(Unless they can unload Briere by some miracle.)

Ok fine doughty 1st season wasn't that good. Second season pretty good. Next 3 not much improvement from 2nd season. MOre consistsnt yes. Elite ? Guess we will have to agree to disagree. Maybe I consider elite differently. I don't think doughty dominates at anything. Not scoring passing defenDing maybe hitting. Very good all around but to be elite I think you have to be able to dominate in at least one area on a nightly basis. If you look at doughty/voyNov first 100 games in league voynov is better overall. Not so up and down. Idk maybe I'm just jealous and blinded because we never get dmen prospects like those 2. Must be nice.
- SMS4016

Doughty's second Season was pretty good? He scored 59 points and was a finalist for the Norris Trophy. Elite is being very good at pretty much everything. Which Doughty is. Right now, whether you look at the first 100 games, or in any way you want to look at it. Voynov is not in any way better then Doughty.

Voynov might turn out to be the next Lidstrom for all I know. He's a very good player. But he has not reached the level that Doughty has, at any point in his career to this point. Maybe he winds up better in the future. But not right now.

Keep in mind that during the Off Season, Capgeek makes assumptions on who might be on the roster next Season. So it's not entirely accurate. Capgeek does not keep track of the off season Cap.
