Doughty was more ready than Voynov. Doesn't mean that Doughty will decline sooner. He's also just as likely as Voynov to become an even better player over the next few years, my point was they're the same age and both likely to get better than they are now. - Jsaquella
Very true. Just can't see doughty improving a lot more. I think he's probably reached his ceiling. Not a knock on him. He's a great player. MiGht get a little better and more consistent. Voynov only 1.5 years in NHL. Just think he's got a lot more improving to come over the next few years and will top out a little better. Maybe in the end it'll end up like a pronger/neidermeyer tandeem. Pick your poison

I have no idea how you can say a 23 year old player has reached his ceiling. Especially a defenseman. And I disagree that Voynov will "top out a little better". Voynov is a really good young player. But Doughty is special, and has been since he entered the League. Doughty is elite.

I doubt that a 23 year old guy who can play at an elite level now has reached his ceiling. And I also doubt that Voynov has reached his.
I do feel Doughty is better and has a higher ceiling. But Voynov certainly could eclipse him and could eventually be a Niedermayer/Pronger type situation. Both are outstanding young defensemen.

I wouldn't say elite. I'll leave elite for chara weber even karlsson. Dmen that can control and change game everynight. Doughty allstar? Absolutely. Tier below the elite? That's where I'd put him. With the likes of say Keith. Do I see doughty or voynov becoming elite? Probably not. Doughty went through many growing pains his 1st few years in league and has only come into his own the last few. At this stage in their NHL careers so far in their development I would say voynov is further ahead Than doughty was. That's why I say if they were to progress at same level voynov has a slight higher ceiling. Maybe I'm wrong. Time will tell but I'd love to get hiS a$$ in Philly and watch and find out
