it's totally ridiculous... anyone who knows anything about hockey would know kesler + edler is much greater than any one position in the draft. none of those players are proven and will take 3/ 4 years to pay dividends. meanwhile both kesler and edler are allstar players in their prime. the maroons out there think the Canucks will lose their minds and overpay. but that's not Gillis' way. trades might not pan out, but at the time they are made Gillis gets value. - kaptaan
It's not always about worth though...Van needs to start thinking about an heir to to the Sedins spot...4th overall will likely be a real deal player, and the need is for 3-4 years from now. Being proactive is smart.Unless of course, they manage some fancy trades that put them back into contendership. |

Which gm do you see out there willing to trade a pick that will likely be a franchise player for the next 15 plus years for a 5 mill cap hit that has not played half a season the last few years?
I don't see it. You can market MacKinnon for the next 15 years to a fan base. - Iggysbff
While I agree that it would take a lot more than Kesler to get MacKinnon, to say that he hasn't plated over a half season over the past few years is inaccurate. He played 17 regular season games last year obviously below half. The previous season he played 77, the season before that, 82, then 82, 82 and 80. He isn't nearly as injury prone as people make him out to be. |

He's worth 2 of them at least. When will they understand! - Nucker101
but with his contract he's not. |

Not many teams can afford to let popular players play out their careers with the same team ala Yzerman & Lidstrom. We should have traded Iggy 2-3 years ago. To keep the team fertile you have to roll over & get the proper value or you wind up facing the rebuild cliff. If Canucks were to trade Kesler & get in the top 3, that's ballsy but fans would be commending the move 3 years from now. Sedins are unique in that because there are 2 of them, the value wont come close & who can gut their assets for 2 stars in their 30's & beginning of their decline. - Kevin R
Really wHere does it say the Canucks have to trade BOTH of the Sedins ....if Gillies is smart he will trade the one that plays at center (Henrik I believe). |

edler and kesler for the fourth??!! is that a joke?
ur basically saying barkov for kesler and edler.
a selke winner and 30+ goal scorer and a true top 4 dman, both relatively young for a 4th overall is ridiculous.
u either wayyyy overvalue draft picks. or wayyy undervalue kesler and edler. - hugefemale dog77

Maybe the Canucks are done with the Sedin twins? They don't do much in the playoffs, where it counts..Florida needs someone to get them into the playoffs..once they do they can unload the twins to someone else that wants to win the presidents trophy. - oilers2k14

Oh come on, stop including garbage in your proposal - Booth - yeah like Florida wants him back.
If you think the #2 pick is going to Van for anything less than Kesler, Edler & a 1st rounder, I think you're dillusional - newmy

Big time overpayment. - docmorgan
a second liner and a top four d for a future franchise player is not an overpayment
sure there is risk the kid doesnt pan out.. but his value right now is furture franchise player
therefore any trade involving that pick will be treated as if you are trading for a franchise player
and no offense.. kesler and edler does not get you there.
thats why trades like this are a gamble.. you trade for a kid's ceiling.. even tho there is no sure thing the kid reaches it. |

On most teams Kesler would be on the first line |

why? because he was a 70 point player 2 years ago?
since then he reached 50 in 77 games.. and had a serious injury
his trade value is way down.
dont get me wrong.. i like kesler.. but if you look at it objectively.. as all nhl gms would.. his value is low right now |

My source tells me that someone just plugged a new Trade-database-members-only thingie and this be the hype that follows.
Saying that, no, I do not believe Kes is moving. Although, the Canucks pretty much played without him for the last 2 years and did not show themselves to be half bad.
Who takes over for Kes if traded? Kassian? Nope... Higgins -- PAH-Lease.... we have had so many Higgens-Pyatt-Bernier-Sandlak 2nd line hopefuls with no strength or toughness in front.... I do not think they can replace kes.
Is the league thought Kes was available, I think we would see major momentum out of Philly, Detroit and New York... not Florida.
booth back to florida....nope!
Edler to Florida makes much more sense. Packaged with Booth? - Beatle_john

He's still one of the best defensive forwards in the league. GM's value defense as much as they value offence. I don't think his value is as low as some people would think. A team like NYI, or maybe even TOR would be lining up for his services, because it would ensure playoff contention for them. |

i never once said he didnt have value
what i am saying is he doesnt have the value you guys think he has.
he is not worth a future franchise player even with edler included. please dont take this as me saying he isnt worth anything. thats not what i am trying to say. |

And again other gm's know ''futur'' franchise players can be bust's so your argument about the so called lower value of Kesler can go the other way too. |

incorrect. sorry.. but it is.
with the current landscape of the league.. future unproven franchise players are topped only by current franchise players
its stupid as hell i know.. but its the truth |
