As long as Kesler doesn't move, and i'm not too high on trading Jensen.

Top 4 sounds like Nashville because it seems they probably would have said top three if it was in the top three considering there is a "big three." If it is, I don't know if I would like the trade because Vancouver has almost no prospects of great value. It will probably be for a veteran player like Kesler. But hopefully that won't happen.

Although Tampa or Colorado would love to have Schneider...

- Bryant44

Schneider w/ Col or Tamp's current D in front of him would be no better than Varlamov or Bishop. People really need to start weighing who their goalies are playing behind and what systems they play under when they make estimations about their worth. You could start calling it "Brian Elliot (or Mike Smith) Syndrome." Cases of just decent goalies being turned into hyped, star-quality tenders by the teams they play for--take away the team, and they'd likely turn back into pumpkins.

Also, VAN isn't likely going to be able to get much back for either goaltender (especially Lu) seeing as there's likely going to be a # of quality FA's available w/o the hassle of having to trade. There's also the problem of both of them playing like poop in the playoffs...so yeah...

This blog is garbage. Every team knows if they wanna move up the top three are very hard while 4 and 5 seem easier. every team is trying to get up there. I am sure the nucks are just another one of them. Not a big deal

I guess Kesler is getting traded ,then assuming VAN drafts 4th they will either replace him with Barkov or Nichushkin.....

it's totally ridiculous... anyone who knows anything about hockey would know kesler + edler is much greater than any one position in the draft. none of those players are proven and will take 3/ 4 years to pay dividends. meanwhile both kesler and edler are allstar players in their prime. the maroons out there think the Canucks will lose their minds and overpay. but that's not Gillis' way. trades might not pan out, but at the time they are made Gillis gets value.
- kaptaan

actually overpaying is right up Gillis's ally..Just look at Lou and Cory and there you have it..Noone is gona take on Lou's contract and give up a top 1st rounder to do it..

if rebuilds can have trips to the cup finals in the middle of them, then the leafs have been rebuilding for 40+ years.

Does that include the four Stanley Cups the Leafs won in that time frame?

What an interesting thread in that we all know that many, if not all, teams call and ask about what it takes to move into the first few picks. That's just due diligence -- I'd be disappointed, for instance, if Paul Holmgren didn't know what the price was.

But what makes this interesting is that Vancouver is in an interesting place. The GM has publicly stated they want to reset the team, and with a new coach coming in, no ties exist between that person and anyone on the roster. That is ripe for a trade.

Just from the outside looking in, Ryan Kesler has been hurt a lot, lately. Sometimes that's bad luck, and hockey's a tough sport. People get hurt.

But at the same time, Vancouver can play without him. They've proven that they can have some level of success -- we can debate about how much, but they've proven that they can compete, to some degree, without him on the ice.

I don't overvalue or undervalue players. There are some who are more valuable to their franchises than they would be to another, which makes trades a little trickier.

But for me just sitting here, I don't know why a deal involving Ryan Kesler couldn't be reached for one of the higher picks in the first round, if that's what Vancouver wanted to do. At some point, you have to go big or go home. You can't just let a team get old out of sentimentality.

Yeah he got overzealous by about 15 years there...It is a bit rich to call oilers fans for taking digs at the canucks. Leafers have carte blanche in my opinion to knock the habs and sens if they want to
