Only in Vancouver is Burrows a top 6 forward. 4th liner on any other team. Trade him for Horcoff. There's your 3rd line center.
- Allstarzz

Finally some common sense. You're absolutely right. No way a guy who scores 30 goals a year (with no PP time) and consistently finishes in the top 5 in +/- (in the league) is a top 6 forward.

He's not Kesler or Burrows, he's Brendan Gaunce. If you're going to compare him to either of those two its Kesler, both first round choices. Difference is, Kesler is a tremendous skater. Gaunce is more mature than Kesler as a 19 year old, he's physically more mature\ready, different kettle of fish.

Anyways if he shows that he belongs then you play him, if he doesn't you send him back to junior. I think it's foolish to just arbitrarily say he's not ready. People were shocked when Ryan OReilly made the NHL as an 18 year old, he's doin ok! BTW didn't Kesler play as a 19 year old?

- LeftCoaster

I'm comparing them to both because both are examples of players who were pegged as having bottom6 upside.

Kesler played a handful of games as a 19 year old, but finished the year on the Moose, and then played a full season there and put up numbers comparable to Gaunce's in the OHL before he was given a full time NHL bottom6 role.

Unfortunately that's not an option for Gaunce since he didn't go the college route.

Kesler also had skating concerns early on—his straight line speed was exceptional but his agility was questioned.

Sound familiar? Gaunce won fastest skater at one of the prospect evaluation/combines—his straight line and top speed are also very exceptional, but acceleration and agility have been the knocks.

I'd like to see the Canucks take a similar approache with Gaunce and let him develop his offense in the OHL and AHL before he gets a bottom6 role in the NHL.

Give him his 9 games, and unless a miracle happens and the kid's offense has magically taken off over the summer, send him down to complete his final OHL year like most prospects do.

Nice to see a Ref in here. You're welcome to hang out on a regular basis as it gets pretty non-sensical quite quickly.

He doesn't have an answer yet either. Just found two more threads. Gonna need to stop it at some point.

Edler won't even fetch a 1st round pick. Jack Johnson was extremely over-hyped and fetched Jeff Carter. It won't be the same for Edler.

Do you guys think Edler would fetch a guy like B. Schenn? I doubt the Flyers would even make that trade.

- RedwingsAreKHL

I get that you're not high on Edler but this is just nonsense. Paul (frank)ing Gaustad fetched a 1st round pick. So did Kyle Quincey. Seriously man...

You see MacT's comments this morning Morris? Not all that surprising that's his thinking but surprising to hear out loud.

Agreed. I think that maybe some do overvalue Edler's trade value, but he could easily get a first, and that's such a vague statement to since there's a big difference between the 5th pick and the 25th.

Kind of refreshing to see a GM be straight up for once.

Lets keep in perspective the time of year some of these players were traded. Gaustad for a a 1st at the trade deadline is not a realistic comparison. If it was, Edler would fetch Claude Giroux+.

Having said that, Edler will bring back a very decent return should the Canucks deal him.......and they should......

Agreed. Certainly anything in 20s would be extremely easy to get straight up. That said, if Gillis were going for just 1 pick in exchange, I'd be quite curious to know just how high of a first rounder we'd get.

I know, right? I'm surprised people have been crying on these forums that making that statement would now weaken the Oilers bargaining position. Would have loved MacT in our org.

Given what we saw in the playoffs I don't think Roy should be re-signed for anything but out of curiosity where did you hear that he was demanding $6m?
- AlexF

I believe either Bob Mac or one of the TSN crew mentioned it at the time he was traded to Vancouver that he was looking for a deal somewhere in that range. I can't recall the actual quote however.

Thanks. Yah, he's a reall good kid and a player that is in my opinion a little underrated.

I think someone will take a flyer on him because he is one of the fastest players in the drafts and he doesn't mind getting dirty.

I guess us Canuck fans shouldn't complain so much (I never complain ) when Sid and Malkin only score 2 goals in 3 games . They are on pace for 4 in 7 games
