Surprised you didn't mention Shawn Matthias. He'd be another great fit on the 3rd line. After his 2nd half last season it'd be difficult to pry him out of Florida, but he is an RFA this season. Maybe a deal could be worked out.

not trying to start a war or anything, but be careful how you value defensemen .... as much as we know how valuable they are to a team, it seems they bring less return in trades than one expects.

Now, I'm not comparing Edler to Regehr, but LA only gave up two 2nds to get Reghr ... Edler would not fetch that much more ..... more for sure, but not a huge package.

As of now they have no interest in moving him.

More than likely he will get a new deal and be named Captain.

- dadeadhead

No player's untouchable. All it takes is the right offer. He's the perfect fit for what the Canucks need right now.

Buffalo isn't in "win now" mode. They're not in a rebuild mode, but they're close. They're notoriously cheap. Ott is UFA after next season.

Not saying it will happen, but certainly the potential for a deal.

Corrado?

He's a defensive D, with offensive ability.

His defensive game has always been his bread and butter—the reason he was nominated for OHL D of the year, and the reason the Kitchener Rangers traded for him to play with Murphy.

The fact that he has a good shot and pass is just gravy.

- Fosco

Alrighty, I'll have to look into him more.

The fact still remains that he has room to grow in his game and physically, and as such probably would be - as Iggysbff said - a 5th or 6th guy on Edmonton for the time being.

And of course the greater fact that Vancouver would be morons to take on Horcoff's giant cap hit.

I'd try and work out a trade for Matthias. Offer sheets (almost) never work. Would take a huge offer sheet to get him out of Florida and that's something the Canucks would have great difficulty fitting under their cap.

Steve Ott is the perfect fit for the Canucks right now. Would be the ideal player for their 3rd line. Yes, the asking price would be high, but maybe they could put together an appealing package or take back one of Buffalo's horrible contracts to buy out in return.
- KB3Point0

the problem with taking back bad contracts is we would then have to find someone to take loungo, booth and ballard. Easier said than done. I could see booth being very solid on a team like the preds or coyotes as long as injuries werent an issue.

Totally true. He would be my first pick even ahead of ott.

Probably to start. But if he can crack Van's D, he could likely crack EDM's, and who knows how far he climbs up the depth chart with a full season. Kid seems to be developing at a pretty impressive pace.

I think Ian's "franchise D" comment that iggysbff was responding to was tongue in cheek, anyway.

No, we need to find someone to take Luongo. With the number of teams in need of goaltending this year, there will be at least 1 taker (NYI, PHI, PIT, FLA, TB, MIN, COL, EDM, BUF, CAL, PHX, NJ).

Ballard will be bought out (or traded with some cap hit remaining) and Booth will stay. If we wanted to trade Booth, we could. As you said, there are teams who could use him.

Big fan.

Would love for the Canucks to get him. Unfortunately they don't have much to offer NYI in terms of a trade that doesn't start with "Lu" and end with "ongo"...

Unless it's a package with Edler that also includes a top 6 forward coming to the Canucks, as well (obviously there'd be more going to NYI too, if that was the case).

You are kidding with the bolded part, right?
You do know who the owner is and that he has spent a ton since he took over, I hope.

Mostly it's because of prock's love affair with Blacker and his contention that Blacker is way better than Corrado.

I'd be very happy with either! As Ott is UFA after next season, I'd take Matthias too.

Didn't say he was, said they have no interest in moving him as they'd like to resign him and most likely name him captain.

And as for the "notoriously cheap" reference, I'd say with the contracts they signed the last few years that moniker is no longer valid.

Wonder what kind of new material the guy is going to have when he's back from his ban after next thanksgiving...?

Would rather see Schroeder as the 2nd line C with either Booth gone and Kesler on the wing, or Kesler gone and Booth on the wing. Canucks have got to free up some cap space. Then sign/trade for a better quality 3rd line C, like they did when they signed Malhotra.

Tell that to PITTS and STL—Edler is quite a bit better than Johnson and Goligoski. Defense is and has been a sellers market for years.

Not trying to start a war, but I am absolutely shocked by this post. You are out to lunch.

Edler is not even in the same realm of value as Regehr.

26 year old one year removed from an allstar appearance who puts up .60 points a game, is 6'3" 220 pounds, hits like a truck, and blocks a ton of shots. And he's signed long term to a good contract—Regehr was a pending UFA.

You're comparing him to Regehr at this point in his career..... Wow!

- Fosco

OK Buttmunch, before you start being a smart@ss, read the start of the sentence that you bolded ...... allow me..... I said, "I am not camparing Edler to Reghr" I know that Edler is better than Reghr ....

if your such a hot shot trade value expert .... take off the homer glasses and you tell me what Edler is worth......

Honestly even Ballard I could see going for futures to a team short on veteran Dmen. He is not a bad player, was just never given a chance. Since this goalie mess started I always thought Lu to the Flyers once bryz was bought out and if not the NYI. But as you point out many teams need goal tending. NJ might be a good fit too as Marty cant have much left in the tank to be the number 1 guy at 41.

isles would probably be looking for defense/goalie...personally i want nothing to do with luongo; weve been down that road..actually were still on that road. what would it take to get schneider?
