GARTH: Canes Listening To Offers For 5th Overall Pick
- garth

A couple of Canes bloggers and sites have said that the Canes could really use a mobile left defensive defenseman. If I was Paul Holmgren, I would offer them Coburn and the 11th pick for the 5th pick.

The idea of trading Malkin is wild. The offers the Pens would get would be insane. Have to think 29 teams will have offers in.

Don't Columbus and Calgary each have 3 picks? Good start right there.

Ship him to the Yotes and have him be the eventual face of the new Nordiques

You don't want that face to be the face of your franchise. Maybe if they were the Quebec Rocky Dennis's

Canes want a top 4 defensive D-man...So, if I were JR...I would consider that offer, but 11th might be too far of a drop...maybe if you added pick #41 or a D prospect???

If they'd take Coburn and the 11 +, they should be interested in Sekera and the 8 for sure.

Flyers are pretty thin on D prospects but I would add pick #41 if the Canes threw in their 3rd round pick.

Probably would take more for a 100 point, hart trophy guy in his prime. Would take at least 2 1st rounders, a top flight center prospect....and miller.

Then the Sabres extend Malkin to 10+ million a year

Maybe, but I disagree with Rutherford, I still think there is some drop off after the top 5. Any pick between 6 and 15 is going to get a very good player and I think Coburn is a better fit for the Canes than Sekera

Touching on a few things:

Canes would like Sekera as they also wanna move McBain. And i want to get rid of Sekera more than even Miller or Vanek

I scout for junior hockey and I still dont have enough knowledge on these guys specifically so no one really knows unless you work for a pro team and travel to see in person or any live game not just the highlights.

Any Malkin deal most likely will hinge on fact he resigns so team doesnt trade the house for him and he just waltzes back to Pitt or wherever next offseason

Canes pick is easiest in top 5 to get but unless you really want nichushkin (i think he falls to 5 and not drouin) then do it, if not id be ok with monahan or lindholm

satini is someone i really want at 16. would be nice to have a shut down d man (zadorv is gone by then anyway)

Why would the Flyers want to do that though? Do they ever want to have decent defensemen or goaltending? Seems silly, they should stay at 11 and take Zadarov or Pulock

I think Sekera had far better numbers, is on a much better contract, and didnt finish the year on IR for a separated shoulder, so to me fit can be argued either way. And the 8 pick is a better slot than 11 - perhaps not MUCH better, but still.

With all respect, of course.

There a rumors that Edmonton are looking to trade Yakupov because they know they will not be able to afford Eberle, Hall, RNH and Yak in 2 years. It is obvious that they need defensive help. What would everyone think about a trade of Miller, Sekera and our 8th pick for Yakupov. Or maybe we could do Miller, Stafford, Sekera and our 8th for Yak and Edmonton's 2nd round pick. We could agree to pay half of Miller's salary. This would leave Edm with the 7th and 8th picks in which they could get a top D prospect like Nurse and Zadorov and we would get last year's #1 pick. It may seem like an overpayment, but what is an overpayment for a #1 pick?

Garrioch also reports Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray has been getting calls for winger Bobby Ryan but he’s resisted. Even with the cap dropping, Murray wants to retain Ryan…There’s been no contract talks between the Winnipeg Jets management and UFA defenseman Ron Hainsey…There’s talk the Oilers could move Nail Yakupov to bring back a return which could get them into the playoffs…

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Murray doesn’t have to shop Ryan, but with the cap dropping for next season, only $4.882 million in projected cap space and several key players to re-sign or replace, the Ducks will have to free up some cap space somehow…I doubt the Jets re-sign Hainsey…I’m not convinced the Oilers will part with Yakupov after only one season. They’re willing to shop their first round pick (seventh overall), and could try to move Sam Gagner if his asking price to re-sign proves too steep

Yeah.... I'd say there's about zero chance of him getting moved. Was the oilers best player in the last 15 or so

Our second and Kulikov for Faulk, Skinner, and your 5th That's the kind of deal it's gonna take if you guys wanted to move up. We draft Nich.

Btw, I think your new jersey's > Dallas's. Wtf were they thinking?!?!

- Panthers88

I floated out Eberle, Smid and the 2014 Oiler 1st yesterday for Kulikov and the #2.
Thoughts?
