I like the idea of handball more or even water polo more, it combines the elements of both their sports. - Tsyolin
oh my god its not about ability at their sports. its about being a general ATHLETE
i dont care how many 3 pointers evegeni malkin can hit because he doesnt play basketball, that doesnt make him less of an athlete
just like i dont care how hard kobe bryants slapshot is.
put them in a contest where its only involving natural human athleticism and the nba players will clean the floor with the nhl players |

I got on the Sabres phone app for the first time in a long time and there was a mock draft on the opening page. Might be an article on NHL.com, not sure. - theblueandgold

How many NBA players can skate.... like, at all. Let alone stay on their feet with their size. - Tsyolin
Skating is a skill, running a 4.4 is athletic ability. Two different things. |

8. Lindholm: C 6'1" 181 An impeccable skater with a "total package" skill set, Lindholm world-class vision, instincts, and two-way commitment provide game-changing elements for any team to build around. The creative 6-footer motors in and out of traffic seeking opportunity, but more importantly plays the game hard in all situations with the intangible trait to bring out the best in his mates.
16. Santini: D, 6'2" 207 Named best defenseman at the IIHF U18 World Championship (past winners include: Brent Seabrook, Erik Karlsson, Ryan Suter, Kevin Shattenkirk, Adam Larsson, Cam Fowler) Santini's well-rounded skill set helps solidify the Sabres' future defensive core. The draft is all about projecting players three-to-five years down the road, and the right-handed BC commit already stands out with his impressive skating, open-ice hitting and keen shutdown acumen.
I'd be happy with that first round if we decided to stay put. Been talking about Santini for a week or so now. Really like what people are starting to say about him and his future in the NHL - theblueandgold
Zadorov I like but Santini will def be available at 16 and I would not be mad if they took him |

My man!
I dont think there is a bad dman that we could take... Nurse, risto, santini, or zadorov.. I think we emd up with one of them.
Lindholm, monahan, shinkaruk, or nichuskin on offense...
Cant be a bad pick! |

do not forgot that RynoBull made a bet to everyone here that this entire draft is overrated and 3 years from now to get back to him with how the top 3 are busts |

It still seems like a pointless gesture to me, it's entirely subjective and to be honest I don't think there is a way to truly compare their athletic ability. There is a lot of major factors that just can't really be measured, the mental factor being a big one.
Athleticism is more than just being able to jump high and run fast, which is why I think a competition does no good. |

ive been thinking about that and came more to grip that if we stay where we are and get santini/zadorov/risto and monohan/lindhold like what JVince said then you really cant complain. it helps the rebuild and i dont get my hopes up. maybe we can keep miller and vanek and keep trying? idk. i wish wed get mac but i dont see it happening so im ready to not get my hopes up anymore |

There is a difference in being an athlete that can run and jump and someone who is very hand-eye coordinated. Basketball players like Lebron James are the best athletes in the world. |

track and field, specifically decathalon, would be how you test it. very minimal skill, high amount of athletic ability required. |

What about foot-eye coordination? Soccer players would be offended. |

Erne is good but too high for 16th overall. I think he's more of a 20-30 pick. |

If you're talking present day than I agree, but all time? That's tough. Michael Jordon, Mohammad Ali, Bo Jackson, Michael Phelps.... (frank) it the argument isn't worth it let's not even go there. Yeah LeBron is pretty much the best this day in age. |

Zadorov seems like he'll be one of those long projects in terms of finally getting him NHL ready. He'll be great but it might be a while, I think if they go BPA it's got be Ristolainen. Higher ceiling than Zadorov and he's a lot closer to the NHL. |

there is absolutely no question that lebron james is a better athlete than michael jordan. you are again confusing the argument with better at their sport.
the other ones are fair though. |

To be fair there has never been a competition before that measures up the athleticism of pro athletes across all sports. Looking at who was the best in their sport is by no means a bad place to start. |

What is your reasoning behind this statement? Because they run around more?
They are stronger? Because they jump high? |

Kind of. Lets take for example the 05/06 Sabres. Max Afinegenov was by far the most athletic one on the team, but that doesnt mean he was the best because hockey is a sport that doesnt rely solely on athletic ability to be great. |
