That would be the smarter thing to do yes, but whoever said that NHL GM's have common sense?

I just don't see the reasoning for taking a chance to keep Vanek. Since we are rebuilding I'm not interested in gambling with Vanek at the trade deadline. His value is still pretty high right now. Too many things can go wrong next season and remember there is also 3 weeks of Olympic play he will be involved in, a serious injury or poor season crushes any trade leverage.

How can you not somewhat agree??? The past two season have been his worst seasons in his career. He has played with fantastic players in his career which is why his stats look nice. Not saying he isn't good. Just overrated by Sabres fans.

Ryan played center a lot of the season on a different line than Getz/Perry. Ryan is an excellent player who will get you 30 and 30 while hitting and doing all the little things, he's not a superstar but would probably be the best player on our team besides Vanek

See what happens when you play on a line without Getz/Perry??? He is overrated and like you said is an excellent player but not a superstar "which a lot of people here think he is".

BTW Ennis had more points this year... Now obviously Ryan brings much more to the table with his size and powerforward abilities but the trade would cost more then just ennis.

I have said before that I didn't want to trade Ennis+ for Ryan because we don't know what Ennis ceiling is, and you know what your getting with Ryan. However Ryan>Ennis. No way would I give up the 8th and Ennis for Ryan

If the Sabres trade Miller/Vanek before next season I'd imagine us getting a young roster player that's already in the NHL and a 1st rounder. You can't just trade away two big big pieces just for a draft pick.

WGR is dumb for suggesting that!!! If we were a playoff contending team then its a great idea with having pegula who can make them wanna sign here. But now with rebuilding i just cant see them wanting to sign here.
