So how does everyone feel about this?

Ink it now before the season starts, NBC won't want the last place team playing on national tv.

It makes more money... So why not?
- Smittyx36

I could care less how much money it makes.

The fact is that the more events they do like this just makes them less special. They essentially become only about revenue.

Eh, disagree with that. Taking a big hit into the boards/glass is a lot more painful than taking an open field hit from a receiver or running back through the hole.

Football players play with bigger padding, hockey is at a higher speed.

- theblueandgold

Besides QBs and WRs, your getting physically punished for the most part every play 40 times per game. Guys going head first into your legs, running full speed into eachother. Football is all contact all the time. Football players can barely walk by the time their 50. Gordie Howe played when he was 50. IMO having played both sports it's not close.

Outside games are dumb and the Winter Classic should never be played as often as it is. That is my opinion of this story.
- sambarugh

remember I live in the south where college football is huge on new years day

instead of competing with that, they should play 2 games on a differrent day, maybe new years eve

4 teams total

1 game with an american team vs a canadian team in canada and in the states

call it some friendship classic game

but what do I know

Aren't the next two years of outdoor games already booked? Wouldn't this game be for the 2015-2016 season? If so I guess the assumption by NBC would be that the sabres will be at the very least a playoff contender by then.

To be honest, I don't think the NHL suffers from the New Year's Day slot. While it is college football, it's also a day where most people are simply in front of their televisions because they're still hung over from the night before. More people tend to tune out of curiosity in between games, commercials, etc. Besides, the Winter Classic doesn't compete with a BCS game, and that's really all that needs to be worried about. The rest is just television noise.

Here's hoping.

I think it sounds like fun, it makes sense in a Pegula-connection way, and I'd consider going.

I'd like to go just because those types of events are special. No matter if there's 5 a year or 1 every other. It's a completely different atmosphere. That being said, I don't think that there should be a random lottery for anyone who's a fan to be able to buy tickets like there have been the last few years. There has to be a better way to do it than that.

Since I am a WR I disagree with that statement. Even when your not running routes and catching passes you are still run blocking and engaging in defenders. The big difference about hockey and football is that in football you can get hit at any moment, hockey you have to be in the general area of the puck and most of the time have an awareness that a check is coming. Football there are so many chances to get ear holed and at times have a safety running 20 yards to smack you over the middle of the field

My man!

I dont think there is a bad dman that we could take... Nurse, risto, santini, or zadorov.. I think we emd up with one of them.

Lindholm, monahan, shinkaruk, or nichuskin on offense...

Cant be a bad pick!

- JVince11

Yeah people on these boards will freak but I think it makes sense to stand pat with the 8th. It will just plain cost too much to move up to a top-4, maybe if we are damn lucky we can move up to 5th or 6th, but is it really worth it at that point?

I'd rather keep Miller or Vanek for a straight up trade for a roster player or top prospect. Maybe we can package the 16th pick with a 2nd to move up a couple spots to 10-14th?

I'm ok with keeping Van. Your right about moving up unless Miller helps us do that with our 2nd 1st pic. The draft seems pretty deep so an 8th could be like Van was at 5th. We won't see any of the prospects on the team for 2-3 years anyways .
We have Enroth and Hackett for goalies next season if they ever get signed.

I agree. Some positions are tougher than others, like running back and linebacker, maybe NT. But, LB gives out the hits. I played hockey and running into boards, blocking shots and taking open ice hits hurt.

My initial post was not about what sport was the toughest but which players were toughest, who took big hits, shots to the face, broken bones, separated shoulders and then game back and played with those injuries. I contend that hockey players do, more so than any sport but boxing. But, that's just my opinion.

When playing hockey you literally could go an entire period without getting any significant contact. Football it's unavoidable. Contact is your job.

You could if you are in a non-checking league, if you did in any competitive league you would be on the bench or out the door pretty quick.

There are games even in hitting leagues that have no flow and very little hitting. See your average game in February.
