yeah, or a young guy and a second, as I said earlier. He's not a bad player, but he's got a big contract, and he is almost surely in his last year as an Av. He won't fetch a huge return. If he's traded this summer, he'll get a little more, as it gives a team a year to sign him to a reasonable deal. If not, he won't get much at the deadline or next summer.

Stastny will cost less than thorton, and is younger so could be a good asset going forward. I am drooling at the fact of having JVR Stastny Kessel line... poor burke is not here to see his americans GO TEAM USA!

Its Duchene and O'Reillys for top icetime, having stastny only will take away time from those kids. Not that he doesnt deserve it, he needs top ice time and wingers to be effective, so let him be a good player somewhere else, he deserves minutes somewhere else.

In a dream situation I would rather get a top fridge 2nd line winger and a 3,4 pairing dman for him. Fills roster needs without having to over pay in a weak UFA year

The interesting part about that is it's likely most of the USA Top line for the Olympics. You could argue Parise, but still...

I think Stastny would be, at a bare minimum, a 60 point player in this line-up.

Could he regain his PPG form? Maybe.

it's going to be an interesting UFA year.... It may be weak now, but what happens if Brad Richards and a few other players are added to the mix? It's going to be interesting to see what players are on the market when it comes time to start signing players.

Kulemin would be one of the wingers we would part on and probably as a defender would have to be gunner or liles or take all 3 instead of the 2nd rounder

Im curious how that buyout is going to work, do you have to buy out your players before free agency begins? Will kind of suck to guys like Briere and Richards after teams already have made moves to fill their rosters, and they will have to find new homes during the middle of summer if they dont get their cap management done earlier enough

I really like Franson though, but the way he was playing at the end of the year, I think he has a roster spot secured for you guys. He has a bomb from the point.

Liles would have some value on our team. Signed to a reasonable cap hit, he knows how to run a PP, could be a mentor to young guys like Johnson, Barrie, and Elliott. He has his best years with the Avs, could spark him again

umm, according to Bob Mac, a couple of weeks ago, he mentioned it was to start 5 days after the cup is won, and goes to June 30th I think. It all wraps up one day before free agency starts, IIRC. So, teams can wait until the last day, and essentially guys can go from signed with one team one day, bought out, and then signed with another the next.
