It's not like they go out to make that happen, fact is, they likely won't want to give up the Salary that Bob could get offered were a team to offer sheet him. I think teams are beginning to learn from overpaying goaltenders after brief 1 yr performances.

Theodore has been great here, and I would love to have Markstrom backing him up instead of having Clem backing up Markstrom. The only problem with Theodore is he is coming off an injury and at his age, all of the physical requirements for goaltenders are stress enough without coming off major surgery. We shall see. I wouldn't mind trading Clem somewhere where a backup is needed to keep Theo at a cheap one-year contract.

Well this is a nice set up considering you know who my team is.

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: As the Flames, somewhat empty cupboards, can't afford to give up picks nor should we for a goalie as we don't have a shot in the next 3-4 years (being optimistic). Were we in a position such as the Oilers, lots of prospects but lacking the right pieces (arguably goal tending is not the issue but I wouldn't want to hit the playoffs with Dubnyk were I in those shoes), then absolutely. I'll assume you meant give up picks, in which case . Also, I'll just pass your back to you. Whatcha got now?

Nabby had a bad playoff but he was effective down the stretch for the Isles...He was their best goalie..Poulin may be the next goalie for this team but a UFA may be the answer to share the net next season. I have no issue with Nabby returning as well. Unless one of the big names landed here of course. Streit will be dealt on draft day in regards to his rights and some sort of package to move up to the top 10 picks. as far as liles and komi for Strome, no thanks....nino for Bernier does sound tempting but I see Nino on the top line with JT. Gonna be a fun summer in hockey I believe for alot of teams with the pending buyout etc....

Streit will not be dealt as he is an unrestricted free agent and will likely sign in Philly as they need a pp quarterback real bad.

As for rumors out there that Toronto may get Dipietros contract in exchange for Liles and Komisarek and Strom coming back to Toronto. More needs to come back Komisarek's contract ends next year I'd keep him and play him. The Leafs to take an albatrostic contract like that of Dipietro would have to get back Tavarez anything less would be too expensive even for the Leafs.
- Snowmanonfire

dude, give me some of whatever it is you're smoking! Why would we trade DiPietro AND one of our a future top 6 forwards for your garbage? We can just amnesty buyout DiPietro's contract and be done with it.

Price get traded to Colorado or Florida for their 1st pick. The Habs sign Backstrom or Smith. How's that for a carzy thought!

Cause Wang does not want to keep paying DiPietro's contract. He is sick of losing money. Toronoto is full of cash!

I hope Anaheim trades Hiller...Vasth is good enough to hold down the fort until Gibson steps in and the Ducks don't need 7 million in goaltenders. I'm sure he'd make a great starting goalie for a team like Colorado...Maybe Hiller for Steve Downie and Sgarbossa?

I feel like it is worth mentioning that Bob is only 24 years old. Were my team in a slightly closer situation to being a contender (see: Edmonton) I back that (frank)ing truck up and make an offer. Being 24, he fits right in with the budding (if they can figure their poop out) dynasty team. Make the offer just below the next phase of compensation at ~5/season and look for a longer term of 4-5 years. This is a manageable contract and well worth the risk if the young kid keeps his steam. The compensation becomes a 1st and 3rd going to Columbus, picks they would covet. Obviously Columbus will match if they truly feel Bob can carry them to the playoffs, but if that contract is just a little big, it's win-win for both teams. Columbus gets further picks to build on an already potential laden young squad and Edmonton stops loading up their overstocked cupboards and makes a push to become a real contender.

In what fantasy world does a team that just came off having 3 #1 picks and still can't finish better than 13th in the conference have a better "contender" status that a team that just tied for 8th & has had a better record in 3 of the last 4 seasons?

You don't really believe what you just said there do you? I think the Oilers are probably better than half the teams in the league, they just gotta get their poope together.

I'm interested to see what happens with Mason, some veteran help to get his head right could do him wonders. Thomas on the other hand is done, just wait till we get to see what a year off does to a goalie! ask Ricky D
- Jay Uller

JeffR. has Mason back on track and T.Thomas would make an excellent backup and be able to ease his way back into form...

Why the goaltending market is dead and will remain dead.

Goalies looking for a new team:
Emery, Khabibulin, Theodore, Nabokov, Bryzgalov, Smith.

Goalies possibly getting traded:
Luongo, Hiller, Miller, Bernier, Halak,

Goalies that could move but won't:
Bobrovsky(unless it's KHL), Backstrom,

Teams looking and who is a possibility:
Buffalo: Theodore, Hiller, Emery (Enroth starter or 50/50 if they trade for Hiller)
Chicago: Theodore,
Columbus: Probably only looking for a back-up. Emery, Theodore.
Edmonton: Miller, Hiller, Smith, Bernier, Halak.
Florida: Smith, Bryzgalov, Nabokov.
New Jersey: Bernier, Halak.
Long Island: Halak, Smith, Bryzgalov.
Philadelphia: Smith, Hiller, Halak, Luongo.
Pheonix: Theodore, Emery, Halak, Nabokov.
St. Louis: Smith, Miller, Luongo.
Vancouver: Theodore, Emery.
Washington: Luongo, Miller, Hiller, Halak.

More options available than spots open = dead market. And I haven't mentioned Tim Thomas, because I think his rights were traded, and he'd have a contract year left somewhere, no?

Option 1, yes. Option 2, no. This is a pipe dream anyways, especially to Colorado. They gave up a high pick last year or 2 yrs ago for Varlamov, no? They won't do it again so soon.

HIs rights were traded to the Isles, who if I remember correctly were using him to simply use his cap number. His contract year got burned (no pay though), and he is able to be a UFA this season.
