Did he really just imply that not having Michael Leighton signed was a problem? He probably won't even be in the NHL again. Still can't even say that guys name without getting angry at the cup he cost the flyers.
- FlyerAdam30

Well he was stating not having any goalies with any NHL experience not signed is a problem. The market is soft this year considering the Salary Cap is dropping

I hope the Flyers cut Bryz and promote Mason to starter and sign T.Thomas as a backup...

I don't think Nabokov deserves a whole lot of credit for "getting the Isles into the playoffs", IMO they got in despite having a mediocre starting goaltender. Gives the Isles a good goalie and they'd be a lock for the playoffs next year with the ability to do some damage.

As an RFA, Bob doesn't have much choice. But he's a good team guy. If Columbus shows they want him, he will probably want to stay. With Luongo and Smith and Backstrom availible and the lack of real need by any one team beyond the goalies they already have, the market is pretty dead. I can't think of a team that could swing and RFA sheet that Columbus would not match, nor one that could justify signing Bob to such a contract when there are more proven commodities out there. I think they'll work it out and I doubt it'll be that crazy.

The Market isn't dead by any means. NYI needs a starter and a backup, same with Phoneix and Phili needs a Starter. Too many teams to mention need backups. This is going to be a feeding frenzy for goalies this year. Bob could collect interest from numerous teams. Trading him might bring them numerous pieces. However it would also put them in the hunt for a back up. Off the top of my head Van, Edm, Win, Min, Pho, Bos, Nyi off the top of my head are looking for backups.

I agree that Thomas is way better than Mason and some teams might dress an assistant coach before Mason. It will be interesting to see if Thomas comes back with the same gusto he did when he left. If he does he will want a cup contending team. Not many teams in the playoff this year that could use a 1 or 2 year upgrade. NYI? maybe toronto? He will want to be on one of them. He might take a gamble on teams that improve their rosters in the off season which is not going to be Philly. Tampa maybe, Edmonton looks to make the playoffs if you were looking at Vegas odds. Thomas on his game would probably shore that up for them. Winnepeg if they can replace the talent they are losing to UFA.

I think Hiller might bring in a pretty decent return. Interesting that his save percentage has dropped off the last 2 season though.

I'm a Leaf fan and Emery's play this year was outstanding and as a back-up he was stellar. With Reimer and his lack of gamesmanship ie., delay of game tactics Emery could a mentor for his dark side. That tandem could be had cheap with great value.

As for rumors out there that Toronto may get Dipietros contract in exchange for Liles and Komisarek and Strom coming back to Toronto. More needs to come back Komisarek's contract ends next year I'd keep him and play him. The Leafs to take an albatrostic contract like that of Dipietro would have to get back Tavarez anything less would be too expensive even for the Leafs.

I don't know about that now, seems like there's a ton of really good goalies that will be available.

I feel like it is worth mentioning that Bob is only 24 years old. Were my team in a slightly closer situation to being a contender (see: Edmonton) I back that (frank)ing truck up and make an offer. Being 24, he fits right in with the budding (if they can figure their poop out) dynasty team. Make the offer just below the next phase of compensation at ~5/season and look for a longer term of 4-5 years. This is a manageable contract and well worth the risk if the young kid keeps his steam. The compensation becomes a 1st and 3rd going to Columbus, picks they would covet. Obviously Columbus will match if they truly feel Bob can carry them to the playoffs, but if that contract is just a little big, it's win-win for both teams. Columbus gets further picks to build on an already potential laden young squad and Edmonton stops loading up their overstocked cupboards and makes a push to become a real contender.

Columbus isn't going to set their franchise back years for those picks.

I highly doubt Bob goes for more than 3.5-4 mill a season unless he really doesn't want to be in C-bus, in which case fold the team because if he goes no one will see them as more than a discount bin shopper with no potential.

It's not like they go out to make that happen, fact is, they likely won't want to give up the Salary that Bob could get offered were a team to offer sheet him. I think teams are beginning to learn from overpaying goaltenders after brief 1 yr performances.

This was expected from him when he was origionally signed, turned it on after a sophomore slump, like I said I wouldn't go higher than 4. He will be consistent regardless

As good as Bobrovsky was, I would be a little leery... Don't want to have a Jim Carey situation on your hands

28-13 with a .915 sv% in year one. Then the team signs a guy for 10 years as the expected starter. How motivated would you be?

I'm interested to see what happens with Mason, some veteran help to get his head right could do him wonders. Thomas on the other hand is done, just wait till we get to see what a year off does to a goalie! ask Ricky D
