Question for you Isles fans:

Is the Wang in this for the long haul, or do you think he will look to unload the Islanders?

I'm just wondering if now that the real estate development is dead and buried, does he still want to own a hockey team?

Thanks in advance.

This question always stirs debates on here.

IMO, Wang is a guy who is obsessed with his own legacy. He wants to be remembered as the guy who saved the Isles and returned them to glory. He's also a business man who knows he's been losing close to $20 million since he bought the team over a decade ago. Since this team finally has a decent dance partner with Barclays and will actually be operating in the black for the first time in over 20 years, I'm inclined to think Wang isn't going anywhere and will enjoy trying to make some of his lost revenue back over the next several years before allowing his son to take over and possibly share with the Ratner group.

Not a chance.

We have way to many of our own guys to resign. Honestly not interested in a defenseman that cant play defense anyway.

I can't say I'm surprised somebody is going to foolishly over pay him in July. Train wreck in his own end. Good on the PP but I think Viz is better and this gives Donovan a legit shot to make the team and get some pp time as well

Not necessarily...Ratner is the guy who recruited Wang and the Isles to Brooklyn, and after he did so, he became involved in the Coliseum property and now has one of the final bids under consideration to renovate the Coliseum (obviously that idea didn't just pop into his head, and Wang has to be involved somewhere in that process). There's quite a bit going on between Wang and the folks at Barclays, I think. We never really found out what the actual deal was with the Isles moving to Brooklyn...does Wang get a small share of revenue from events other than Isles' games? Does Ratner share in Isles' revenues?

Whether Wang officially sells or not...who knows? It'll most certainly be to one or more of the Barclays folks if he does, I would think. But even if he doesn't I don't think he'll be out on a financial island anymore. There are bigger interests now at the new arena with a stake in the Isles' success, and I'm sure they're willing to invest and/or support Wang on some level going forward.

great decision by management...dont overpay for a late 30-something year old with barking knees and a liability in his own zone. we have enough offensive dmen...

I think Donovan would have to have a disastorous camp not to make the team at this point.

Honestly he may have had a point before we acquired john moore at the deadline. But with him in the fold, if we can deal del zotto + for yandle I Think we'll be ok on D.

So I guess I'm not the only one who saw all of this as good news?
Streit is barely a second pairing dman at this point. He's a total liability in his own zone, especially against physical forwards. While he still has puck skills, he's terrible at keeping pucks in the offensive zone and tends to be too tentative in his decision making with the puck. All in all, I think it's addition by subtraction at this point. I appreciate his service and hopes he appreciates being overpaid by us for those years, but we have far better dmen coming along in our system and money to burn. Via con dios Streiter

Cant be worse than Hickey and Finley ( I know many here like Hickey, but I don't think he is our answer on defense)
